50 Hz is 50 cycles per second and 60 Hz is 60 cycles per second. You have a ten cycle per second difference.

In the case of an AC electric motor it will run a little faster on 60 cycles than 50 cycles. And going the other way it will run slower and have more heating.

The main concern is the voltage different between American 120 AC volts on 60 Hz for general lighting load (lights and receptacles) and the European 220 volts 50 Hz system.

But that are a lot of small appliance made now with universal voltage meaning they will work both on the 60 Hz 120 volt systems and the 50 Hz 220 volt systems.

Best thing is look at the label when buying the product if you are going to be switching back and forth. I.E. traveling back and forth between America and Europe.
