Hi Ramesh! No you can't be infected with rabies after several years after you were bitten. The cat who bit you would have died a long time ago. Rabies is a viral disease transmitted usually by a bite of an infected animal. The virus spreads in the body via the central nervous system to the brain. Incubation period averages 1-2 months, rarely up to 1 year.Did you have a tetanus shot ?Unless you have shown true symptoms of rabies infection you wouldn't have had needed anymore shots.Local symptoms would include numbness at the site of the bite.General symptoms would be severe fever, headaches, muscle weakness and paralysis. If you are still depressed you need to see your MD,I'm sure some antidepressant medications would help you. Take care. SW RNP

You are not in desperation. Rabies doesn't incubate for 20 yrs and then make you sick. If the cat had passed rabies to you, you'd have known it long ago.

Relax...whatever may be wrong, it's not rabies.

You can read more about rabies here http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/rabies/

after six months the cat would have been dead if it had rabies.
and no, you do not develop rabies after 20 years. You would have developed symptoms with in a month and be dead now.
Not to worry.
