We are getting married in a small, immediate-family- only ceremony. Three weeks later we are having a reception dinner at a hotel for about 150 guests. Should I wear my wedding dress at the reception?

I am a wedding photographer and have done over 250 events. Most brides DO wear the dress to the reception, but given the fact you have a gap in between you may not wish to do this. HOWEVER.... (I am playing devil's advocate here)

Since you only wear a wedding dress once, why not get the mileage out of it, and let everyone see how beautiful you look in it? You may also be in a lot more pictures since 150 guests are coming, so remember that what you are wearing will be in those photographs for years to come. When you look back on those photos, wouldn't it be appropriate to have your wedding dress on? Just make sure if you do this, that everyone else is dressed up too. If the groom and all of the guests look casual and you are the only one wearing a beautiful dress, it would be a little silly.

Have fun and CONGRATULATIONS!!

A wedding dress is so beautiful and special that I think you should enjoy it and wear it as long as you can. Nothing will match up to your wedding dress so why change. Also at the reception people want a chance to see it up close.I really see no point in the custom of changing for your reception or into a " going away outfit"
[On a romantic note few things are more beautiful and exciting than your new husband gently taking off the dress you were married in on your first night!]

Yes. There will be so many people at your reception who did not get to see you on your wedding day, and i am sure they would like to see you in your dress, as well as have photos taken with you and your new Husband. You can take another nice outfit to change into before you leave the reception. Have a wonderful time. All the best.

I'm doing the same thing, small family celebration & then blow-out cookout for the reception. I plan to dress in costume, since it's a Halloween party reception, but not wear my wedding dress. I think you should wear a gorgeous party dress but not the one you married in. Since this is going to be in a hotel, you know you want to look lovely for photos. I think you should leave the wedding dress, veil, bouquet all for the wedding itself & wear an elegant party gown to the reception.
Congrats & have fun!!!!

Depends on how fancy it is. Those who are attending the reception won't have seen the gown, so they'll probably be disappointed if they don't get to see it. "What did the dress Look like?" Is one of the first questions people ask when asking for wedding details.
Besides-I would want to wear it for as long as I could-after all, you only get to wear that dress once!

Since there is a 3 week difference between the ceremony and the reception then I would say wear what you want. Congrats and may you be blessed with many happy years

I would. It would give you a chance to show off your wonderful dress. It will also give you another opportunity to wear it. Seeing the bride in her dress is one of the great things about attending a wedding. By wearing it at the reception it will give those that weren't at the wedding an opportunity to have that experience.

Since the reception is three weeks after the wedding, I would suggest that you get a different dress. Something more casual, but still very classy and elegant. Good luck.

There is nothing wrong with wearing your wedding dress again. I know that brides do this all the time, when they have destination weddings. Since none of your family and friends were present, I'm sure they will want to see you in it.

I would wear the wedding dress at the begining for the big entrance, introducing MR & MRS...., have some pictures taken, and have the dance with your husband and your father. Then I would change into a different beautiful dress, maybe not white.. you did have the honeymoon already!?
Something elegant, but comfy. It's going to be a party right!
