YOU SHOULDN'T EAT LESS THAN 1200 CALORIES A DAY! Most people need that much to maintain normal body function even if they sit all day. Any less and your body starts to shut down systems to stay alive. DANGEROUS!

The recommend average calorie intake per day is 2,000, and depending on your age(I believe) it should be either higher or lower, but 400 calories are to low, within one 25 cent bag of chips is about 350 calories, 2 slices of white bread is 100, lunch meat 60-70, 1 slice of cheese 60, and a spread of your favorite condiment 30-60, If you see where im going a lunch time snack with 1 sandwhich and a side of chips will run over 400 calories.

400 calories a day is equivalent to starving yourself. However just because you can eat more doesn't mean you should eat unhealthy.

400 calories is way too little! Normally you're supposed to eat around 2,000 calories a day, but I never believed that. I try to eat about 1,500 calories a day and I'm pretty thin.

Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, it is too little. That average daily calorie intake recommendation is between 1800 and 2200 calories for a young, active person. 400 calories would be considered malnourished.

400 calories is way way not enough for a human to survive on. even 800 is very low. depending on your hight, weight and gender id say about 1800 is enough to be healthy and still lose weight. just eat healthy. instead of one cheeseburger all day, eat salads and fruit and drink a lot of liquids. cutting calories to the extreme you talked about wont really help you lose wight because your body will go into starving mode. the trick is to eat so your body is satisfied and dosent store anything it can.

Wow that is really low... depending on what your fitness goals are and your body frame will tell you how many calories you need to take in. Sorry but if this is your idea of a diet you need to seek better advice than on yahoo. You need at least 1500 calories a day. Talk to a personnal trainer that can evaluate you or a dietician.

The number of calories you need a day depends on your gender, age and current weight and activity level -- you can calculate how many calories a day your body requires on websites such as

400 calories a day is not very many -- it's likely close to the calories you would consume in one meal! You probably need somewhere between 1,300 and 2,500 depending on all those things I listed above :)

i hope u're kidding!! the average person SHOULD be eating about 2000 calories. when dieting, that number can decrease to about 1800 or 1600 calories.

Any less and you're starving yourself, losing muscle, lowering your metabolism by A LOT, and increasing the amount of fat and fat cells in your body.

400 calories a day is not enough that is like 2 chocolate bars you will become ill if you eat like that

That is definitely not enough! Anything under 1,200 calories a day can be dangerous to your health or even fatal unless it is under a doctor's supervision. Depending on your age you probably require more than the 1,200 allotment even if you are trying to lose weight.
