No if you have strep you will see little buildups of puss in your throat
have someone look at it with a flashlight
Sore throats don't necessarily mean strep

You may have 'strep' but you also may have mononucleosis or just a 'simple' sore throat. If you are having difficulty swallowing, I suggest you see your doctor ASAP to find out if you have something 'really bad' or if you just need to take a few more days 'off' and rest while you recover from your sore throat. The 'fact' that you had a fever but it 'went away' tells me that it is not 'strep' that you have, but you could still have 'mono' which doesn't have a 'fever' present when you get the 'symptoms' but does have a fever when you first get it but BEFORE you get the sore throat.

sore throat can have many causes including:

Common viruses, and even the viruses that cause mononucleosis (mono) and the flu, can cause a sore throat. Some viruses can also produce blisters in the mouth and throat ("aphthous stomatitis").
Breathing through the mouth can produce throat dryness and soreness.
Sinus drainage (post nasal drip) may cause a sore throat.
A sore throat can also be caused by bacteria. The two most common bacteria to cause a sore throat are Streptococcus (which causes strep throat) and Arcanobacterium haemolyticum. Arcanobacterium causes sore throats mainly in young adults and is sometimes associated with a fine red rash.
Sore throat appearing after treatment with antibiotics, chemotherapy, or other immune-compromising medications may be due to Candida, commonly known as "thrush."
A sore throat lasting for more than two weeks can be a sign of a serious illness, such as throat cancer or AIDS.
Seek medical care:

If you have been in contact with someone with strep throat and you have a sore throat, it is reasonable to have a strep test done.
If your sore throat is associated with a fever, swollen "glands" (lymph nodes), or white patches on the back of your throat.
If your sore throat is not associated with other cold symptoms (runny nose, watery eyes, sinus congestion).
Any sore throat that has a sudden onset and is associated with a fever.
If you are having trouble swallowing liquids (pain with swallowing is to be expected with a sore throat).
If your sore throat persists for more than a week.
If you have a sore throat and the front of your neck is sore and stiff

It usually is, but not always, the first sign of a streptococcal infection.
A simple sore throat is not the same sa a strep throat though. A simple sore throat can be viral in nature, needing no special treatment like an antibiotic. This will resolve in a few days time.

A viral sore throat though, can progress to a bacterial throat infection. person usually coughs out colored(yellow or greenish) sputum. When you look at the throat, the tonsils and the palates are usually beefy red.

A throat swab and culture will usually reveal either streptococcus or staphylococcus. These kinds of infections need complete antibiotic therapy.

A sore throat is not always a sign of strep throat. Could be a sore throat from the virus you had.. But since you are having problems swallowing, I would go get it checked out.

You should get it checked out. I have had strep 3x and it sucks. I have also had bronchitis and that really sucked. Sore throats can be indicators of many things or nothing but a cold. Only a Doctor can tell. Also another horrid possibility is Mono...so go to the Doctor and get treated! Good luck.

THe sore throat occured after the flu symptoms. Which means it may have been caused when your body's defences were low, or due to all the runny noses you had with the flu. Gargle with warm salty water to kill any germs and it should clear up in a day or 2.

It might be strep throat and if you want to you should get checked. If your throat starts to get better sometimes I get really bad sore throats and eventually they go away, however, if it continues or gets worse you should definetly get checked for Strep.

No it could be that you throat is just dry. Ive you become febrile then I would start the think it's strep, but wait it out you may just need to put some moisture into the air so you can feel better.
