For the past 8 months or so, I've been coloring my naturally light brown hair (more like a dark dirty blonde) completely black, getting it touched up every 6 weeks or so at a salon.

Now that I've got about an inch of roots, I think I just want to go back to my natural color. Will my hairdresser have to strip the black out of my hair? How damaging will that be to my hair?

About 25% of me wants to keep the black because I do like it, but I'm worried about the long term effects of dying it every 6 weeks. Any pointers?

Thanks in advance! :)

I did the exact same thing when I was younger, and I used a hair stripper. It was a disaster. It doesn't just get rid of the black and take you back to your natural tone. Your natural tone is not underneath, it's well and truly gone.

Bleaching your hair will make it orange. You can dye brown over it, but it will always have an orangey tinge when it starts to fade. You'll have to keep colouring regularly to keep it up anyway.

Letting it grow out is really the best way, if it doesn't look too ridiculous.

That is true...let it grow out. I also dyed my hair black and wanted to go back to my natural color which is like a reddish brown, but my hairdresser told me to wait and let it grow out. You will do way more damage by hair the color stripped out.

Don't try it. Let it grow out. You will do more damage getting it back to natural color than you would if you keep dying. Your hair will grow. Maybe use some temporary on roots to even out the tone.

The hair stripper shouldn't be any more damaging than the haircolor, especially if you are having it done professionally (suggested method). You hair dresser should be able to strip the dark out and cover it with a lighter color closer to your natural hair. Then, you shouldn't need to color ever again!

it rather is this way of private determination. Why no longer attempt it for a on an analogous time as and notice the way you like it? I had an analogous tale as you, coloring for 15 years to cover gray. After the unexpected dying of a precise buddy, I only stopped coloring it, as area of the grieving technique. 12 years later, i admire my gray hair! It got here in relatively particularly, and has a comfortable look that i admire. human beings compliment me regularly approximately it. we don't could positioned on our gray hair like our grandmothers did, come across a stunning variety which you like! which you would be stunned, and so would your husband. If no longer, you could consistently colour it back.

I think that it's a great idea to go back to your natural color. I am considering the same thing. I am brunet. I have blond highlights. I am considering going natural so that I don't have to have my hair chemically treated. it's expensive, bad for the environment, and unhealthy for me and my hair. I think i'll dye my hair brown and have it be the last time.

As for the best way to go about your hair, I can't say, as i'm not a hair dresser. it may be more difficult for you b/c you have light hair and dye it black. Ask your hair dresser, she'll/he'll know.

Good luck with your choice. Thanks for the question. Hugs, Kuka

Let it grow out honey, you've already damaged it enough by coloring it ever six weeks, which is way too much, no matter how many roots you get. And she would have to bleach like crazy, which would pretty much leave you with yarn-like, straggly, nasty Paris Hilton weave. And we don't want that, now do we?

its going to be very hard and expensive for your hairdresser to get the color out. black is one of the hardest colors to remove and afterward, your hair will look orange and she'll need to tone it.

the result: super fried hair that you will spend even more money on to get it back to its healthier state.
