I am building an MP3 jukebox and want to use a car amp to run the speakers, as I can get one quite cheap and will run sub too. Anyone know a gizmo that would allow the amp to be wired to the mains. Obviously it would not just plug in to waal as it is 12v.

Oh I am in UK by the way so on 230v

Get a UK dc power supply, that meets the power specifications of the amplifier like power in rms, amperage, voltage, etc.
Just curious how are building the mp3 juke box?

what you need is a simple battery charger. What features you are looking for are one which allows you to run an appliance off it. This means it will have either a cigarette lighter attachment on the front or two sockets ie red / black. I have one which I run a car radio off in the shed. what you need to make sure about is the output of the charger is greater than the demand of the power of you amp. All the rating should be at the back or bottom of the amp. The people in the car shop ie halfords or whatever should be able to help you out further. With the cigarette option you could attach a plug to the power cable from the amp and plug it into the car then remove it and plug it into the house! To easy COOL!

You need an AC to DC transformer. But, by the time you buy that and the DC car amp, you may be better off buying a AC powered home stereo amp and just using that.

Also, a car amplifier requires a lot of power, so make sure the transformer you buy is big enough to handle the load (probably 12V and 30+ amps)

You need a 230 Volt AC power supply that outputs 12.8 Volts DC with enough current capacity (Amps output rating) to power all your equipment. They are very inexpensive and you should not pay more than $75 US. My recommendation is to buy a conventional "transformer" supply and NOT a "switching" supply because there's less noise problems with a transformer type supply.

Add up the fuse ratings on the amp for the amperage needed..

You will need a 13.8 volts supply at the amperage you come up with. Get ready to spend some serious money if it's more than 350 watts RMS total.

What you need is a DC power supply like this one:

I'm not in the UK, so there may be better sources for DC power supplies in your area. The link is just the first one I came across on a Google search.

Note that all car audio amplifiers will run perfectly on 13.8 volts DC, even though they're commonly referred to as "12-volt" equipment.

Just get a battery charger and some lenghts of good wire in the gator jaws and into the + - on the amp. It isn't pretty but it's the cheapest and easiest way to to what you want to do.

You need a 230volt A.C. to 12volt D.C power supply unit. Check the items you are going to connect to it so that you get one able to carry the load you are going to place on it.

Check Maplins site I think you will find what you need there.
