I would like them big, from about the shoulder down to above my *** basically, but I'm having trouble finding a design or look that I want for them, does anyone have any ideas where I can get examples of ones that have been done or drawings of wings?
I'm thinking to eventually have something down the middle of my back too, like writing or something, and maybe some surface piercings on the wings (altho thats a way off yet)

Thanks to the people who have offered advice,

I didn't ask if getting wings on my back was a good idea! I want wings because they will mean something to me,
and I'm not an off the wall whore!
thats why I want examples so that I can work my own tattoo out, then work on it with a Tattoo Artist.
I've wanted wings for years now, just haven't settled on a design I like.

In January, I had angel wings cat into my back. It took me FOREVER to find a design. My advice, dont just look at tattoos. Look at pictures of actual birds, statues, everything with wings. It took me about 2 months to find enough things I liked so my artist could draw something out. Mine go all the way across, but not much detail yet. I want them to go a little farther down and more detail. I'm including a link if you want pics of mine. It is a scar though, so there is blood. Just be sure of what you want. Some time soon, I go for my next session. I can't wait. I've got a couple of pics I used. If you're intrested, email me.

BTW, surface piercings will migrate and it's almost impossible to make them heal properly. Next weekend, I'm doing corset piercings down my forearms and they'll have to be taken out that day or I run the risk of unwanted scarring. My piercer said most surface piercings never heal. The only one he said he had luck with was the nape.

There must be something wrong with my computer because apparently I'm not seeing the same question some people are....mine reads that you are asking for examples of wing drawings but some must see that you asked if you should get a tattoo at all......hmmmmm.
Anyway, I agree with Cassie that an artist can draw something great up that would be more original and make them more you.
I can give you a link to one example of Davey Havoc from AFI's wings. I always thought they were gorgeous.....

If you don't have an artist yet check out some of their portfolios and see who has a style you like and some quality tats under their belt. I had just a basic idea of what I wanted for both of my tattoos and they artist just drew them right on my skin so I could see what it would look like then we tweaked them from their. That way it is totally original and you have the perfect style for you. I've always found if you go into the shop before hand they will draw up several ideas for you and then you can pick from there. Good Luck.

Do a search online for pictures of wings, doesn't have to be a tattoo...just any wings you like and then have your artist draw them out so you can see what they'd look like as a tattoo.

Sounds pretty neat actually, but very time consuming that large. I hope you love whatever you end up choosing...I'm about to get a full length spine tattoo soon and dread the pain, but am anxious to it done. ☺

Good luck!

Have you picked which tattoo shop will be doing your tat? If so, you can ask them to draw it out for you. I had one of mine done that way and they were more than happy to hand draw it for me when I told them exactly what I wanted. I brought in a figurine and the artist drew it up for me. Turned out great.

Oh, don't. The female back is beautiful enough without additions.
