I want to upgrade the speakers in my 99 jetta new body style. I know that some cars from this year on had really nice stereos. For instance I know a 99 Durango came with an infinity set. Can some tell me what type of speakers came stock in a 99 new body style jetta gl. I know the size, i want to what kind. Are they infinity, pioneer, etc. Maybe someone has taken them out of thier jetta and knows. I do not want to take an infinity system for a worse sony system. I do not want to step back.

I think you're under the impression that OEM "upgrade" sound systems with after-market branding use the same speakers that are sold in the after-market. Unfortunately, that's not the case. The stock speakers you'll find in vehicles with "Infinity" or "JBL" or "Pioneer" premium systems are nothing at all like those companies' after-market speaker lines. For example, paper is still the material of choice for speaker cones in stock Chrysler Infinity (and other OEM "premium") systems, but after-market speakers with paper cones have been rare for several years.

As it happens, the stock speakers in a Jetta aren't branded by any particular after-market manufacturer. They just consist of a paper 6-1/2" full-range woofer and a separate 1" tweeter with a simple capacitor for a crossover filter. The stock 6-1/2" speakers are a custom design which combines the speaker with a mounting bracket; replacing them requires a 1" spacer to mount the new speakers. Also, they're riveted to the door panel, so you'll need to drill them out and mount the new speakers with sheet metal screws (the mounting holes won't line up either).

I couldn't find a picture of the speaker in your Jetta, but here's a picture of a very similar speaker system in the New Beetle:
