How about a church/pastor/religion who called the divorced and remarried people an abomination?

How about a church/pastor/religion that said that anyone who filed bankruptcy or defaulted on a student loan was a degenerate?

So, why do you tolerate a church/pastor/religion that uses such names to describe the supposed "sin" of homosexuality?

From a literal interpretation of the Bible, those who do not turn from their sin of adultery/divorce by being celibate, obesity/glutton by losing weight, or stealing/bankruptcy by repaying the debt, will not inherit the kingdom of God. Just as fundies say, homosexuals who do not turn will not go to heaven.

So, why do you tolerate such hateful words and actions towards homosexuals by the fundamentalists...degenrate, abomination, scum of the earth...but, would not tolerate such language in relation to other suppsed "sinners"?

Serious question,

I don't tolerate it at all. In one breath they say how God's love is unconditional - but in the next breath it's "but only if you're _______________ " (not gay, not divorced, not this not that etc) Such hypocrisy. God's blessings are for EVERYONE - NO EXCEPTIONS. Religion should be inclusive, not exclusive.

Personally I don't believe there is one "right" religion - I believe in spirituality - one universal God, one people, one world. This belief that religions have that we are "separate" from God and from others - and that God's love is conditional (even though they say it's not) is why the world is in the state it's in. We are all one. Beliefs divide......LOVE unites.

Obese: HELL YES! They are a drain on our medical spending and resources. I'm an athiest until science proves the existence of god but have not written it off totally (I guess I'm an agnostic leaning towards athiesm) but sign me up. Divorce: I'd call them a looney and laugh at them. Maybe throw tomatoes. Bankruptcy or student loan?: if its a "for profit" church that doesn't claim to be a tax exempt organization, then I would say they have the right to say that. If they are not for profit and tax exempt then thier statement belongs in a stand up comedy act. either way I would support such a church/religious organization for either 1- realistic entrepenerial world view, or 2- entertainment value. Homosexuality: if they did it in an amusing way and refferred only to males while having stained glass hottie lesbians on thier windows then of course I would support them. I tolerate such language because if it is made in a funny way then everyone benefits. If not then they have wasted my time and a chance at a good joke.

That's a very good question ! I haven't attended church in ages, but when I did, it was either a Unity church or a Unitarian Universalist church. They were both welcoming congregations. I would not belong to a church that says anything like you've described, but because of my eclectic faith path and my agnosticism, I am one of those that is called "demonic" and a follower of "false religions" and "filth" by other "true Christian" churches.
At one of our UU celebrations, we had a guest speaker point out that the bible has more passage against GREED, than homosexuality, and she said (tongue in cheek) that she would get behind a church forbidding gay clergy/gay members, just as soon as that church would put the same restrictions anyone who makes over 50K a year, and isn't giving some of it to the poor,

Well, in MY opinion, nobody should call anyone an abomination. People are not abominations. The Bible says that certain things people do are abominations, but that doesn't make the people themselves abominations.

Jesus reached out to sinners, and he did not get nasty with even the unrepentant ones. He said, "forgive them father, for they know not what they do." He was talking to the people killing him, wasn't he? If they can be forgiven by Christ, then surely everyone else can too.

I can't control what other people do and say. Since my pastor and church aren't in the categories you mentioned I don't have a problem with either.

Christianity doesn't teach such behavior. That some go overboard is not the fault of Christianity.

Why do the non-Christians always try to use extremists as the model of Christianity? :(

I can't speak to what other Pastor's preach about. I have yet to hear my pastor speak specifically about homosexuality by itself in a sermon. As you pointed out, there are plenty of other sins to address. I believe my Pastor does a pretty good job of reminding us about the 2 by 4 in our eye needing to be removed, before worrying about somebody's splinter.
That's not to say that he believes homosexual activity should be condoned. it's just that it's one of MANY sins that we ALL have problems dealing with.

The Land Letter was a letter sent to President George W. Bush by five evangelical Christian leaders on October 3, 2002 which outlined their theological support for a just war pre-emptive invasion of Iraq. The letter was written by Richard D. It was co-signed by Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries, Bill Bright, chairman of Campus Crusade for Christ, James Kennedy, president of Coral Ridge Ministries, and Carl D. Herbster, president of the American Association of Christian Schools.

I would not support the Church or the pastor but if only one person said it, it does not make the whole religion bad.

If God really said all those things then He doesn't seem like much of a Christian to me. But then what do we Pagans know? We just love God and Her world and His creatures and ........ now I'm really confused. Isn't it supposed to be the Christians that do all that stuff?

You DON'T have to tolerate that kind of talk from anyone, least of all from your church. (Have them read Matthew 7)

If you are hearing hateful words or experience hateful actions from anyone at your church, they are not following Chirst. They are making up their own rules of behavior.

Get out of that church and find a church family that realizes that we are all sinners, so EVERYONE is welcome to worship.

Peace to you always
