By allowing the Mind to be still.

To achieve this stillness, we must focus on our meditation object, the easiest object is our breath, focusing and concentrating on the breath to achieve a balance, not too fast and not too slow. Natural breath.

Once our focus is achieved, concentration can then be focused on the point of entry of the breath. This point of entry becomes our object and the breath itself can be released, this point is the object of Mindfulness, established to begin the work we have set ourselves.

Once the object of Mindfulness has been established, and our Mind is still, the breath cannot be discerned because the Mind is focused on the object of Mindfulness, this is the first Jhana, yet we cannot discern nor do we need to discern these Jhanas. The Mind is now ready for our journey into the other Jhanas. Further travel into these levels means simply discarding the discernment of the characteristics of each level. These factors are known as Absorptions.

The Jhanas are not each seperate, they are Absorbed within each of the others like doorways. The Practise then becomes a single pointed concentration on the focus point, refining this focus sharper and more sharp still like a magnifying glass focusing closer and closer and closer till there is no discernment at all of any thing outside, only our Mind itself, pure, still and undaunted, at this point, nothing remains to be absorbed and nothing of us remains. This is Nibbana...the 4th Jhana....We may not get there, this is often the case, but the purpose is not to achieve Jhanas but to achieve Sati..Mindfulness and this is the key...Sati...

By not attempting to achieve any expectation for practice.

My feeling is that setting an expectation is to give consideration to the future, when meditation is about being in the present.

at college, we had a mediation room.

It was complete bliss. I miss it.

The environment is a big key. It was sound-proof, had very natural, soothing colors and a glass wall that showed this nice little tree by a man made pond. It was quite beautiful.

The closest I come would have to be prayer. I don't seem to be doing much of that lately. It just seems futile right now.
