I rememeber when I was little, a particular day was coming and everyone said that was the day of the rapture.People were pointing to referances in the Bible, but I don't know what they were. We are still here, nothing happened.
Now it seems, everyone is saying this again. What have I missed for everyone to believe the end is near (again)?

Things are getting in place for the "end," as they have been ever since the beginning, especially with our new technological and biotech capabilities:

REVELATIONS 13:3 A great leader with a head wound who is "healed" - we have several biotechnologies in place (cloning being one) to bring back what would appear to be a great leader who had died from a head wound.

REVELATIONS13:17 The network being created by electronic banking will make it very, VERY easy to control peoples' abilities to buy and sell. If their account number were the "mark," they would be able to carry on life as we now know it, buying and spending and living, but if they refused the mark, they would be without a way to make payments on homes, make payments on taxes, etc., buy gasoline for their cars. Increasing the number of digits in the social security number and implanting that via some kind of tatoo or tracking device into the skin could EASILY fulfill that prophecy.

REVELATION 11: 9 With Internet and television, it truly is now possible for people all over the world to watch this event 24/7.

MATTHEW 24:36 People who are prophecying exact times/dates for the end are not reading their own Bibles, or they would know that they DO NOT KNOW.

FINALLY (because I think I need to keep this brief), DO NOT FEAR, BECAUSE OUR GOD IS THE BIGGEST AND THE STRONGEST AND THE MOST INTELLIGENT BEING THERE IS, and because He loves you...HE LOVES EVERY ONE OF US! He allows us to make our own choices, though. He does not promise easy times. He promises eternal love. He does not prevent pain, but He does promise eternal life with Him. Even though nobody, not even Christ Himself, knows the exact time of the end (see Matthew 24:36), we are ALL admonished to watch and be ready.

God Bless.

Hi Ashley - That is certainly an interesting subject, and I could go on about it for ages....do you live in the USA, where Tim LaHaye's books and films have been very popular, and are based on the idea of the Rapture? Here in the UK they have not been so popular, but Brits tend to be more secular than Americans, I think.

I am a believing Christian, and certainly believe Jesus is coming back soon, but also am aware that He did warn people not to waste time speculating about the exact day or hour when He would come back, but to follow Him and thus get themselves ready for that day, as you never knew when He could come, like a thief in the night. ......

However, He and the Bible in general do give a list of signs of His imminent coming, all of which are happening with increasing frequency in our time.....not the least of which is the return of the Jews to Israel, which happened almost overnight in 1948! And all the conflict which has gone with that.....

Here we go ... today's "end of days" question. This question seems to be forever repeated.

These are only the last days if Christians succeed in making them so. I find it extremely saddening that you can not see the sanctity and beauty of the world in which you live. You could work to improve things on this world, yet you are so focused on the next that this world is neglected. It seems that the sentiment is that: "it doesn't matter what happens to this world as I'm going to heaven", or: "the quicker this world is destroyed then the quicker judgement day will come and I'll have my perfect life".

Horrible weather and earthquakes happen all the time everywhere. If they predicted the end of the world, the world would have ended millions of years ago. By the way, that horrible weather is expected to affect 70% of the population of Canada too.

Since there are no scriptures in the Bible to support a rapture, it would be interesting to see what references these people were referring to. This does not mean, however, that the end of the world's system of government is not coming to an end (which is what "the end" really means). Believe it or not, God's kingdom will be established on Earth (Matthew 6:10).

There are different ends but I think you're referring to the Christian version. Even Jesus didn't know when the end will be when He was asked! So don't worry your head over it. No matter what, the end can come singlely for you between today and the next 90 years. Just live everyday and make sure when you leave, we would miss you.

there are several signs of the end of days, countries at war is a sign, but then so is the day that all the nations will believe that there is peace across the world for the fighting will stop and then the great wrath will come then, but i believe the one where people burst in to a ball of flame and turn instantly to dust or the other natural phenomena will spark your attention and you'll be sure not to miss the next big rapture their calling for. But on the for real tip there is a formula to try to at leats determine in close proximity the year or even month that the king will return....i remember that may of 1999 was the roughly figured day when i was a child, but nothing happened out of the ordinary that day....check out revelations for a number of signs. it is very interesting. ( and scary)

People keep on predicting the Christian apocalypse but seem to forget a few key ditties.

Matthew 24:34
“Remember that all these things will happen before the people now living have all died.”

Matthew 16: 27, 28“For the Son of Man [i.e. Jesus] is about to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each one according to his deeds. I assure you [i.e. swear to you] that there are some here who will not die until they have seen the Son of Man [Jesus] come as King.”

"Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, EVEN THOSE WHO PIERCED HIM..."

These things didn't occur as predicted. There is not a single living human that is alive that was alive then. The only rational conclusion is that the messiah made a mistake. You haven't missed anything of value, but I can think of many who seem to....

yeah, I remember guys with signs saying the end was near in the fifties. I don't think it's useful to think about the end being near. For one, this limits life to the physical world and says nothing about the spiritual world, so it's a fearful, materialistic way of thinking. The end of life on earth could come at any time, it's all a pretty delicate balance of a planet spinning and rotating in space around a huge ball of fire, with comets and asteroids flying thru space. I believe God holds all of this in check to protect this planet.

But even more than this, we have to realize our destiny which is not to be these limited beings who are stuck on this planet forever. We are eternal souls with a future on higher levels of reality and we need to transcend all of the small thinking and fearful prophesies and get one with a more expansive viewpoint that considers the possibility of enlarging our consciousness. Just my 2c.

I have just read in paper that a scientist had predicted that the world will come to an end in the year 2060. I will not be alive for another 53 years as I am old.
