We are getting a house it has a huge fenced in yard. However it is not a large or high fence and the house is not big enough for say a Great Dane which I would love to have! I found a Cairn Terrier (i swore off all terriers) but reading up on the breed and seeing how cute they are I need a remedy?

One that you love. Go to the animal shelter. Look at the sweet faces. You will know when you find it. And best thing is you may save a life. Or if you are determined to get a full breed, find a respectable breeder. Don't buy at pet stores who support puppy mills where animals are not well bred or cared for and usually don't come from good living conditions.
You didn't say who "we" is. Are there children in the home? Other pets? Do you have allergies of any kind? I am a dog lover but for some reason terriers tend to bother me more than other breeds. My mother in law has scotties and I am allergic to them. (We have three dogs and I foster for a rescue periodically.) Do you want a lap dog, or an active dog to run with? I have a beagle/chihuahua mix that is extremely affectionate and likes to snuggle, but she also likes to fetch and go for walks at my side and BEGS to go with us in the car. We have a chihuahua that thinks she is a rottie and is more independant but makes us laugh every day at her antics. And we have a collie that thinks he is a lap dog. He is smart, affectionate, and very gentle with children and other animals We have a cat that adopted us that wants nothing to do with the dogs, except my collie. She loves him and goes up to him and lowers her head for him to nuzzle her.
Collies are awesome pets. They are smart, gentle, and very sweet and they vary in size. If you want smaller, look into shelties. There are rescue groups all over the place. You could try petfinder.com.

The only little dog that I really like is the Boston Terrier... They're kind of obnoxious though. I prefer big dogs as well, but Bostons look like Mini Boxers to me so I like em. How about a medium sized dog? An English Bulldog? It has the big dog looks but they're not too big. Go to www.dogbreedinfo.com you can research EVERY breed, even the ones you've never heard of! Or check out www.petfinder.com or visit your local shelter or rescue group and choose whichever little dog you fall in love with! There are TONS of dogs in the shelters who desperately need homes. The VERY best dog to own is FROM THE SHELTER!!!!
Actually, Danes make excellent house dogs. My dad collected live great danes and had as many as 4 (count them!Chelsie, Cody, Jasper, Mazie) in the house at one time. They were very nice to have in the house.
Great Dane rescue is the place to get one.

The best little dog.. I owned a yorkie for around 12 years and she was amazing.

We have a peekatese, half pekingese, half maltese. She is wonderful. but then every dog is wonderful, so maybe just go to the local pound and see who you fall in love with. You might just save a life too!

I love Boston Terriers. In fact I have 3 of them. They are fun, energetic, loving, loyal, smart, and almost human like. Mine hardly ever bark or whine but simply tell me what they want by their facial expressions. My favorite is the face my dogs make when it is time to go to sleep. They sit at my feet all relaxed and droopy eyed. And when I say is it bed time they get all excited and race to our bedroom and fight to get the spot closest to me. It is hilarious. Drives Hubby crazy but he enjoys it too.

A mix is the best dog a pure breed dog is more expensive and isn't any better.

A pug is the very best dog to get. THey are loving and comical. They also get a lot of attention when you walk them.

the best little dog: is a jack russell terrior. I have always wanted a little dog. They are cute little lads!
