I can't get anything to work...my volume controls are gone and my scanner I have spent the last 3 days trying to get it to work...help what can I do?

It is a real Vista...I bought a brand new flatscreen and Gateway sent me the
"Express Upgrade to windows Vista"
that's what it is called.

Volume control: Control panel > Sounds
Scanner: uninstall the scanner and re-install..let Windows automatically install it...If it cant, try downloading the drivers from the Manufaturer site..
Get a genuine windows Vista..Please...

It sounds like maybe your Windows Vista might not be genuine (purchased with a unique product key). The symptoms of this include:
* Constant desktop warning if user is running a non-genuine version
* Windows Aero and Windows ReadyBoost are disabled
* Non-security updates and downloads are denied
* PCs will go to reduced functionality, where users will experience no desktop, no start menu or task bar, and Windows Vista functionality will be limited to the default web browser for one-horu periods.

look at the support section of the makers site of the items that aren't working. check for vista updates.
since you didn't state makes / models... hard to say.
