Why is the lower back tattoo referred to as the "tramp stamp" I personally think it looks nice.

Ive heard that too but yes i agree with you. I also have 6 more on my back but that's besides the point. People who say that are haters and if anyone has one down there they would know you have to be tough as nails to get one there its the worst spot.

I was talking to a friend the other day who knew I had tattoos but didn't know where. He referred to the tramp stamp and I had to ask him what it meant because I had never heard the saying before. He explained his version, basically women with tats on the lower back are whores. I then informed him that I have one there. He apologized and felt like an ***. I think his opinion may have changed. People who use that term are ignorant. They judge women without actually knowing who they are or what they're about. I love my tat and am definitely not a tramp. It's my body and I can put my art wherever I chose to. I could give a **** less what some ignorant fool thinks of me.

Supposedly, girls who get tattoos on the lower back want to attract attention to that region. However, I have a small tattoo on my lower back of the Chinese symbol for independence and the reason I got it there is because it wouldn't have looked right anywhere else. And the whole point of a tattoo is to attract attention, right? People just like to judge and stereotype other people. Just because someone has a tattoo or a piercing doesn't make them any less of a person.

I had a male friend refer to it as a 'tramp stamp' once, i had never heard the term used before, so i asked him why. His answer was, 'Its usually half hidden by shirts or pants, so the only way you can see it properly is with her pants around her ankles, her shirt above her boobs, and with her bent over'. It was said more in the vein of a joke, well, i thought it was funny anyway, i still do. I have quite a large 'tramp stamp', so yeah, the only way anyone other than my hubby is going to see it is with the back of my pants almost indecently low. I love mine, its different, feminine, colorful, and it suits me. Its 2 seahorses stretched out almost flat, with their noses almost behind my hips, and their tails twined together, down to my tail bone. I drew up the design myself, so i know no one else has it, and its definately not the standard fare for 'tramp stamps', eg butterflies, flowers and the like with black tribal style behind it.

becuase we live in a world were people feel better about themselves if they judge others. I have a lower back tattoo. I got it done 4 years ago and alot of people dont eve nknwo I have it because I dont walk around trying to show off my tattoos. they are for me to like and see, not everyone else. and even if I do wear something where people can see them I really dont care how people judge me. they can call me a tramp and I take no offense to it because in they end, I'm going home to my husband, not to some little boys house who needs to learn to grow up and be a man. and as for getting called a tramp by antother girl...thats fine too because if a girl wants to call me a tramp its usually becuase shes jealous of me cuz I dont act or dress like one.

someone didn't get laid by a girl with a tat there, called her a tramp and started some rumors. That is most likely how it got started. I have a tattoo there. I am not a tramp.

I think that it is an old fashion statement. I mean, that is what my dad would call it. Tattoes are becoming increasingly popular and that is a pretty common place to get one. I don't really think that "tramp stamp" applies to most of the girls who have that tattoo today. Of course, it does apply to a few.

In defense: I have one. It's one of the 3 tattoos I have. (The other 2 are on the tops of both feet) The reason I put mine there has nothing to do with my "social" position. I put them there, so when I need to put on a business suit and get some work done, that all of America doesn't have to look them. I would however agree that if people are going to wear low cut pants, and high cut shirts, they probably want you to see it.

It's a catchy main stream name that people can use to generalize before getting to know someone yet again. I think they depend on the persons body, reason and the design but for the most part I don't like them myself but some are very cute on some people. To each their own. Besides, tattoos aren't for others but for the ones with them so who cares if someone else doesn't like their tattoo?

It's called a tramp stamp because it is something that a guy can see when he is behind you in bed. The idea is that you are a tramp because you are making your backside more appealing to somebody behind you, who would most likely be a guy during some late-night fun.
