Today's "Bloom County" (see link to Yahoo comics page, below) illustrated a problem I've frequently noticed here.

Is there anything we can do about this problem?

Someone said: "A clever one is trying to change the world, and a wise one is trying to change himself".
so it is the only way to solve this problem I know

Oh, that Bloom County got it right on, didn't it. Yes, I've noticed this problem. A person says something another person doesn't like, and instead of dealing with it they just say "I'm offended", which totally shuts down any further communication.

As to what we can do about it? I guess try to be rational ourselves. And maybe paste the Bloom County comic around for others to see?

Hey Ho,

I thought I was the only one that noticed we have become the United States of The Offended.

We can leave people alone who offend us by asking ourselves, How does this really affect me?
Example:
If I see something on television that I am offended by,
I can turn the channel or turn the television off.
I don't have to go into a tirade about the offending program.

LOL cute comic, thanks for the morning chuckle.

I think that whenever a person is discounted we are all diminished. We could use more awareness of the fact that hurting one person hurts everyone and sickens our society.

But the solution is not to fight and come back with something more and more offensive until everything breaks down. We cannot control what others say or do but we can control our reaction to it.

Yes, as a whole, we suffer from offensensitivity, sometimes justified and sometimes not.

I didn't know they still ran Bloom County comics....

Wow..........very funny.

In all honesty.....as a Christian....I am offended about a few things......and I do speak up when necessary. But I don't lose sleep over it if it's not resolved.

I don't think I've ever worried about being offended. As an atheist, it's a part of day-to-day life, and just not that big a deal.
