just got a watch as a gift. can anyone tell me what a tachymeter is, and whats it used for?

a tachometer is the little black box that hgv lorries have on them , it monitors their speed, braking and time on the road , it is designed as a safety measure so lorry drivers only drive their set hours and do not exceed the speed limits, so i am not quite sure why your watch would have one. what make is the watch, it may have a website you could have a look on and see what it actually is.

A tachoMETER measures the engine revolutions (RPM) in a vehicle.

A tachoGRAPH records the daily driving time, speed and distance of an L.G.V.

i think its for lorry drivers to measure there milage stoppings starting breaks etc
