I have been on Allegra 180 for a couple of years now. My arms itch so intensly that I have to put ice packs on them. I take Benedryl when it gets really bad and anti itch creams but it only helps temporarly. Now nothing is helping. Does your body become ammuned to Allegra and Benedryl? I can't take decongestants but sometimes the itching will make me go out of my mind. It is some type of Allergy. Nothing topical. Please help.

I went to an allergist and that's how I found out I am allergic to a lot of things. Dogs, Cats, molds, dust mites, all kinds of trees and grass etc.....

I have used both Allegra and Benedryl for years. I know Benedryl does something called rapid metabolizing meaning that a dose that lasted 4-6 hours at first will only last 2-3 hours the longer you use it. I don't know if there are studies on Allegra that show it does the same thing, but my personal experience has shown me it does. It is best to change the type of antihistimine regularly so that you don't get too used to one (see your doctor about this). By the way, decongestants won't do anything for your itching.
I agree with the poster that said the best thing to do it find out what you are allergic to so that you can avoid it. I too am allergic to "everything," but I recently found out about food allergies I have and avoiding those foods has helped greatly.

I do think you an get immune to a drug when you take it for a long time. You could look into trying Zyrtec now as an antihistamine. You really should consider patch testing for food and topical agents with an allergist and dermatologist so you can avoid those things that set off the allergies. Also, use dye-free perfume-free products, dove for sensitive skin or Cetaphil cleanser to wash in, go with hypoallergenic products whenever you can (Free and Clear hair products, Almay, Clinique. Good luck.

Have you been to an allergist, with a problem this bad I would think you've been camped outside his door, I would be.
My daughter was like this years ago. The doctor gave us many remedies including some off the wall home remedies until I broke.
Staying awake all night and going to work in the morning, switching with my wife, she worked also.
I finally broke and went to him with one question "why in hell haven't you found out what's wrong" and he stated he hasn't given her any tests yet but will, if she's this bad. I asked him why he thought we were there, for Pete's sake give her the tests.
The tests took an hour or less and solved most of our problems. I don't know if the allergist was sucking off our weekly visits to pay for his new car or what his problem was, he was the biggest in the area.
It solved most of our problems and my daughters. You have to see an allergist for tests, on the skin, and get to the root of the problem. Something is doing this to you, from your bath soap to laundry soap, from articles of clothing to something your eating.
We could go on forever with this so, see the doctor.

I have a good solution to take the itching away, the only problem is I don't know the English name so I will try to explain.
Some people use something (this is the name I really don't know, sorry) when they wash their clothes to make it more stiff...) mostly it's used for shirts... it's a sort of powder, and when you iron those clothes after washing them with that stuff they keep there shape better.
It's something to make it stiff.
I hope you know what I mean.
Put some of this powder in water and let your arm rest in it, a few minutes, that takes the itching feeling away.
I sure hope you understand, I really don't know the word, we call it "stijfsel" but I can't find my dictionary..
"starch" that's it, thank you...

Go back to the allergist and get a prescription allergy medicine.
You might also be able to get allergy shots. That's what I had to do.
