Those who get a touch of divine, start resonating with the nature... and nature is dancing and singing....
(music is in fact a part of spirituality in Hinduism. The 7 notes are the humming sounds of 7 chakras...our rishis heard those hummings and invented Ragas. If properly sang, the ragas can activate a chakra too... that z why I treat Bismillah Khan, Pt.Bhimsen Joshi, Mohd Rafi, Lata etc as rishis... they at least touched the divine with their music)

It is interdependent. But to be great musicians, they first were very devoted to their art, which was music. Without devotion to the chosen task, greatness they achieved would have been out of their reach. (One aspect of devotion is not being frivulous or casual - they were ultimately dedicated to the practice of their art)
Secondly, all of them truly believed and attributed their ability as a gift from the Divine and that they were only a medium of expression - obbvious from their compositions. When something is done (in this case, praising the divine deep from the heart), it just flowed as mind boggling music making them legends.

Music makes the process of learning very easy and rememberable.
I f for example you want to teach something complicated to a child of age group 3 to 5 years , if it will sound musical to him he/ she will easily recall it and learn it.
The great people like kabir , meerabai, the music was the easiest way to reach the God.
And not only with there music they enlightened themselves but also the people around them.
They give a real meaning to love for god in their own ways .
surely their devotion made them great musicians.

The music taught them self discipline, and put their minds in order. The music lifted their souls up, and the combination of the discipline, order, and lifted soul took them to the Heart of all things.

A few years ago I had asked one Hindu Guru
"I am not able to concentrate on my prayer as many thoughts disturb me even during brief prayer"
My Guru answered
"Compose a prayer song and sing it along with a few others ".
Now nothing disturbs even my longer prayer.
Music and literature jointly are NECTAR TO SOUL

Oh, you don't like Krishna Das?? ^.^
Only devotion can make one great musician, since without devotion they would be called technician. We don't need music to be a great devotee! (You kinda know the answer already and testing us, don't you ^----^)
