Anybody take bilberry to help the retina of the eye?

If so, how many milligrams (mgs) do you take or were recommended to you? Thank you so much!

Bilberry was actually recommended for my cat who has retinal degeneration by her vet who practices alternative medicine as well as conventional medicine, and it does seem to be helping her (along with taurine, an essential amino acid, and brewer's yeast). I was just wondering about it for myself and if anyone has had good results. Thanks for your input :)

Bilberry (Vaccinium Myrtillus) is a among several species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium including American blueberry, cranberry, and huckleberry. The bilberry berries and leaves have been used medicinally for centuries and are a potential source of natural anthocyanin antioxidants.

There have been several scientific studies regarding bilberry and ocular health, including a comprehensive Russian evaluation of 25% bilberry extract (BE, 20 mg on kg of body weight including 4.5 mg of antocianidin) in rats. These studies have concluded that appropriately administered bilberry extract reduces the probability of age related macular degeneration (ARMD) and cataracts. ARMD is a disease of the eye that causes permanent loss of central vision. Cataract is a natural clouding of the crystalline lens within the eye.

Do NOT take bilberry without first talking to your doctor, especially if you have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder or anemia.

I don't take bilberry but I did hear it's good for the eyes. You'd need to ask a nutritionist or someone from a health food store to advise on the milligrams though. Try carrots too.

no the only thing i have had is laser surgery i am extremely sorry but there are some things that believe only medical intervention can help.
did you hear this from a qualified medical practitioner or someone telling an old wives tale
