There is one reason . . . not primary . . . not secondary . . .
People end up in hell for rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord.
There is a lot more that could be said, but your question seems to be very pointed. It is not about sin . . . sin was conquered . . . Jesus took care of the sin problem . . . if one accepts Jesus, he wipes away all guilt of sin.
It is just like this:
the ticket is purchased
the ticket taker will not let you in without a ticket
Jesus is the ticket . . . to Heaven . . . Jesus said "no man comes to the Father BUT by me!"
it is that simple . . . anything added to it is heresy

LOVE!
Consider that those who He sends to the following...
Revelation 20:14
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.
Are those who have stood against Jesus in one way or another all their lives.
Luke 16:13
No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
However, please note. There is no mention of this place being an eternal place of torment. But rather "second death". What does Scripture say about the first death?
Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.
So while we are living we know and are known. When we die we no longer continue to exist until that glorious day when the righteous will be transformed.
1 Corinthians 15:51-53
51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

They die.
You must remember, or it maybe new to you, the condition of the dead. Eccles. 9:5,10 says the dead are not able to do or feel anything. A fiery burning place would not be torture.
Hell is really the grave. That is all.
Would Jehovah every create such a place? The answer is in Jeremiah 7:31 where a group were sacrificeing babies in the fire to idols. This is Jehovah's thoughts.
In fact, Jehovah created everyone to live forever. It was only due to Adam & Eve breaking their one law that death started.
(Romans 5:12) Due to Jesus' sacrifice, we are given the opportunity to regain perfection. As Revelations tells us, soon there will be a resurection of the dead and death itself will be done away with. THAT is a loving God.

God is Holy
He will not subject heaven to sin or allow a sin filled person to commune with Him for eternity
When we accept the blood of Jesus our sin is erradicated and we can enter and be in God's presence
All else simply end up in hell as the other default designated place.
Only Lucifer and his minions are being SENT to the lake of fire.

The Bible makes clear that Hell was not meant for people. It was meant for Satan and his demons. But anyone chosing to live without God in their lives is chosing Hell. That is the only place where God has no presence at all, which in itself is a horrible thought. But, consequently, it is a place with all the demons and their perversions and destructive designs which, to try to imagine, is horribly un-imaginable.
As has been mentioned, Salvation is a free gift from God paid for with a sacrifice most precious to Him. He desires that all would come to receive and be with Him for eternity. If you don't accept and receive it you are refusing that life eternal with God and chosing one without Him. One way or the other, you will get your wish.

...The Lord is holy, altogether righteous, loving, and forgiving, but we are told in Exodus 34:7b "He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished" -
...He is also a just judge and cannot tolerate sin in His presence. Observe Habakkuk 1:13 a, which says, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniqutiy with favor."
**
...He has provided a full and free salvation in Jesus Christ to all who will believe, observe:
...16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
...17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
...18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
...
...They will be sent to Hell for rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ.

The rejection of Christ's blood atonement for their sins is what will make hell their eternal home. But, because He is a just God, at the Great White Throne of Judgment, he will allow them to see that they themselves made the choice by their own deeds done in the flesh. Meanwhile, we shall be at the Bema Seat, answering for every word and having our filthy rags burned up, and hopefully having a few crowns to toss at His holy feet and hearing those beautiful words,"Well done, good and faithful servant."

To be able to answer that we would have to know what God thinks. We know he does because he said so, but why? Not really sure. The most important thing is we know how to avoid Hell. We have all our lives to make a decision. Each of us will have a fair chance especially those of us living today. The choice is as easy as it has ever been. Living a life of surrender isn't so easy.

God doesn't demand much from us,but he does demand love.If you don't have free will to choose to love or not ,then one is just a robot.BUT,if you do have free will, then there must be a down side to the choices you make.Almost everyone is exposed to the Gospel at onetime or another and they have to make that choice. The ones that aren't ,are judged by the light they have(Romans 1).
Now ,if you don't want to love God down here ,why would you want to spend eternity with him up there. The same goes with Christians. You don't want anything to do with them for 80 years ,you won't want to be with them for eternity. That's the choice that is made.
Hell was made for the Devil and his Angels,Jesus said, and man goes there willingly rather than to honor their creator.

if you got a puppy, and raised it with all the love you had, giving it the best possible care and the best training it could ever need...and some day when it grew up, that dog turned around and out of the attacked you for no reason, what would you do to that dog? any sane, normal thinking person would say they would have the dog put down, for quite obvious reasons.
well..GOD has raised us humans with all the love HE has, and given us all we need for a good life, and given all the best instructions so that our lives might be productive, long, healthy....you name it....and what has man done in return? he, for no reason (no valid reason, that is) turned on GOD, rejecting HIM and hating HIM. and when GOD, who from the beginning told what the punishment for that rejection would be, keeps HIS word, man hates HIM even more and calls GOD unfair and arrogant, because GOD wont let man have his cake and eat it too, so to speak.
so this is my answer...GOD sends people to hell because they made the choice, knowing full well what the consequences would be, to reject the CREATOR of all life!
