you don't eat animals yet you mold your food to the same shape and give it a reminant name?

It's shaped like a giant pill, really. Not so much like many animals... It's called Tofurkey because it's basically like a mock-turkey, including stuffing in the middle of it. The clever name sort of hints at what is being simulated with tofu. A lot of people who haven't been vegetarians since birth have enjoyed the taste of meat and although they later decide not to eat meat for whatever reasons, often still enjoy the taste. Having options to enjoy rather than just going without or actually eating meat is a nice way to go.

I used to eat candy necklaces as a kid, but I never ate any "real" necklaces... Same thing with gummy bears, gummy rats, gummy men, gummy flowers, ... Well, I ate a couple flowers, but still...

Tofurkey & other analogs are good for new vegetarians making the transition into a meatless lifestyle. They're also nice to bring to serve to friends & family who aren't veg. The longer I've been veg the dfewer analogs I rely on, but I do enjoy the Italian Tokurkey sausage on occasion. These foods are good for ppl who may like the texture or flavor of flesh but don't want to consume animal carcasses.

Tofurkey is a product of forced vegetarianism. Some people go vegetarian for health reasons, not because they care about animal rights. Others simply enjoy the tofu and the smokey flavour. As long as there are not animal products in it, why do you think it's wrong? It's not betraying the ethics of vegetarianism. It's useful for feeding to non-vegetarians, and to forced vegetarians. It comforts them by giving them something recognizable.

I like tofurkeys. They are a fun addition to thanksgiving, when my family stares at me like Im a nutjob..until they taste it and actually like it. If you have ever seen one you will notice it looks nothing like a turkey..and tastes nothing like a turkey. The taste of turkey always made me gag..I dont know how to explain that funkiness.. Anyhoo the name is a catchy gimmick..like smart dogs etc. Its harmless, and the food contains no animal products thus meaning there is nothing wrong with it It could be called big blob of beige and I'd still like it. Though that name probably wouldnt cause it to sell well would it? :)

I never had tofurkey, I think it's ok for ppl who are in transition of becoming veg*n. It could make it easier for them. I know what you mean, but you have to remember, no matter what it looks like it is NOT a dead animal. In the end, that is what matters.

I'm a veg and I love the taste of meat, yet I don't eat it for health and ethical reasons. With tofurky you can get the taste without eating meat.

Yay for tofurky!

Quorn is good too, tastes just like chicken. =)

It's so that people get the idea that Tofurky is meant to be a turkey substitute. What else would they name it? Hunk of Tofu with Flavoring? Boring.
