People post about animals..... but how can you have an animal if it is just like enslaving them from their natural habitat.
Seriously, all jokes aside..... how does this work?
See, you all knew that if I got in here long enough poking fun that my mind would start pondering.
I have three cats and two wonderful shar-pei dogs and I love them dearly, but I wonder how it works in a vegan belief to tame an animal..... while it's not mistreating them per se..... that arguement could be made....
thoughts?

Most of our companion animals are rescues. These guys need to live somewhere & I'm blessed to live in a multi-species family. None of our animals are 'slaves' and none have been kidnapped from the wild. Some of our cats were initially homeless, but I'm confident that a loving home, vet care & healthy food is better than their 'natural' environment of the streets. I no longer keep companion birds, as I sincerely feel that I can't do them justice, but content myself with observing the wild birds outdoors. I am currently having some ethical doubt about our aquatics, althought they seem happy enough & have more space here than the did @ the pet shops (and none have been wild-captured).

I've been a cat owner long before I was a vegan. I love my kitties, they are family to me. If I see a cat abandoned or in need of help you best believe I will take them in and care for them. I also have 5 kittens right now, which were born on my balcony to a stray who climbed up there. We will be finding them homes shortly. I don't think the two go hand in hand. Cats and dogs are a human responsibility, we bred them to be cute little things for us to play with, and then let the population grow out of control. So I play my part in helping them, I do get them spayed/neutered as to help population control. If I had the funds I would spay/neuter and release every cat/dog I could. Sadly they do not live naturally in our word, and I will forever care for them as best as I can. I could care less if anyone thinks thats hypocritical of me.
Ya, I guess if you read all I typed you would see that a stray cat gave birth to those kittens, none of my three cats. You asked a question, I answered, why are you trying to find fault in it?-oh yes, silly me, trolls don't actually care about the answer, they are just looking for the first chance to jab someone. Good luck with that.

Vegans make choices concerning their diets. How they obtain nutrition while avoiding harming animals. How you raise a pet is completely different from this mindset, though not entirely apart.
Unless you make them work in a factory for 5 cents/hour you can't "enslave" a pet. I think your pets are happier living inside, eating good food they don't have to find themselves, being protected from the elements and loved by their owner as opposed to living in fear of predators or risk being hit by a car.
Besides, could you see a shar pei fending for itself in the jungle, chasing down its dinner? It's a housepet.

I have many animals...all rescued and none of them have been taken from the wild. None of them were born in the wild and none of them are enslaved, they are a part of my family. My animals were in desperate need of a home.
What natural habitat do you speak of? Did you even know that cats for example, are not native to our eco-system and outside is a danger to them as well as native wildlife? They are domesticated and thousands of years ago were "designed" to be a companion for man.

My rabbit was tame when I got him. I got him at the animal shelter; he was there because someone bought him at the pet store for their kid at easter, then the novelty wore off. I think he has a much better life with me than he did at the animal shelter.
