It's hard to be vegetarian. Don't just accept this as "the end" and give up--challenge yourself not to eat meat again. If you're hungry, stock up on something else so that you won't want anything, including hot dogs. I can't blame you for enjoying one, because they taste good, but if you really want to stick with being vegetarian I think it's a sign that you're doing it for the right reasons and that you can pull it off. If that makes sense. =\

Anyway, I admire you for being vegetarian, even if you ate one hot dog. Get back on track and don't give up! Good luck!

You're a relatively 'new' veggie & that could be why the hot dogs smelled good to you. You might want to see your backsliding as a learning experience & don't let guilt 'consume' you, but remember it the next time you're tempted to follow your nose. When I first went veg, we lived near a KFC & the smell almost convinced me to go back to eating chicken-- as luck or fate would have it, I saw a film of chickens being 'processed' & realized that my bird-eating days were over. Actually, it was the seasonings, not the flesh, that smelled so good to me & after a couple years the smell of *any* meat no longer enticed me. Also, why not bring Smart Dogs or some other meatless treat to the next party?

Since you probably grew up eating meat it is difficult to avoid, especially for long periods of time. You shouldn't let yourself get bent out of shape over it, but its a temptation you'll need to deal with if you want to stay a vegetarian.

I'm omniverous (eat everything) but I don't BUY meat, I only eat it if someone prepares it in advance, like at a party. That way, I can enjoy the food, but I had no part in deciding the fate of an animal. If you hadn't eaten the hotdog, someone else would have, or it would have been thrown away, but the animal that died to make it is still dead.

Don't feel bad; a lot of my veggie friends and I broke down at least once when we started going veg. I ate a McChicken because the smell was sooo tempting....but after that I never understood why I'd liked meat so much.

It's fine it's fine. I am also a vegitarian, and once i accidently ate a pepporoni pizza cause they hid the pepporoni under the cheese. Don't be to hard on yourself, but if you really feel bad you could make it up to yourself by volenteering at an animal shelter or something, but just dont eat meat again..

If you were going to break down and eat meat, you could have found something better than a hot dog. Gross. Do you know what parts of the animal are in a hot dog?

it is better to eat a hot dog and not let the left over parts of animals that they killed go to waste then to let them just be thrown in the trash...cut yourself a break everyone messes up now and then..just start over fresh today and get on with your life..

Think, hot dogs are made of pigs intestines and stuffed with other parts of the pig! that should stop you from eating hot dogs at least! ;)

You had every right to eat a hot dog! Enjoy the memory, and just get back on that meatless wagon again today.

It's fine, chill. If it's reeeeally important to you that you ate one, and you feel bad that you ate one, and you know you won't never ever do it again because you stand for what's important to you, then good for you!

But you need to think, if it IS really important to you, than you need to learn to disipline yourself so that it doesn't happen again.
