You do realise there are many people of all different "beliefs" or "knowledge" that call themselves "Christians", don't you? That is why you get such a variety of answers. What are your opinions about this?

Chet I did not mean to offend you. Their are Catholics, Baptist, Jehovah's witnesses, Seventh Day Adventist, etc. All Bible based beliefs with quite a bit of difference in meanings. (Sorry I didn't feel like listing them all) I was and am curious about how other people view this.

The differences between several groups of christians do not concern me very much. However, I notice that there are certain christians who are fundamentalists and/or fanatics, as in other religions and groups. These are the people who really make me concerned.

Ann, you are totally wrong. Your statement makes no sense at all, "Different beliefs or knowledge that call themselves Christians."

I think you want to make a point that only Christians are intelligents and intellectuals and others are not. I am a Hindi and I call myself a Hindu, how can I call myself a Christian. Everyone has their own religion and faith and their own belief. If you want my opinion, I would say "Man is God."

God is Definitely a Man; He Rarely Listens.
God is Definitely a Man; He Likes To Sit Undisturbed In Paradise.
God is Definitely a Man; He Waits For Things To Happen.
God is Definitely a Man; He Has The Final Word.
God is definitely a man; He Conveniently Shifted All His Duties On Earth To Women.
(Some of them) They Listen, They Understand, They Care. They Make The World A Better Place & Keep God's World Going …

There is one truth only, there can only be one reality.

IF Jesus and god exist then then only one version of them is real. If you do not like that version then tough. If God does not like gays then that is how it is. IF he wants women to be subservient then accept it. If the bible is the word of God, then you must follow it to the letter, you do not get to pick and chose which bits are worth following and which are not.

There are so many different Christian sects because the vast majority of Christians treat religion as à la carte. It is not. It is Table d'hôte, take it or leave it.

From this it can easily be seen that the vat majority of Christians must be wrong. They had better hope that God is forgiving for their transgressions. Looking at the bible it would not appear that way.

IF God is real, us atheists are going to have a lot of very surprised company in hell.

People have thier different views, definitly a good thing. Ima catholic yet I hold no hatred towards other Christians although I do admit some of them do scare me at times. As far as atheists who cares? why do people care so much about something that doesnt affect them

While I respect everyone's right to believe what they want, I also dislike the fact that they all come back to the same fallacies in the bible, a poorly written work of fiction. But, hey, they can believe whatever they want to, so long as they don't hurt others and they keep it out of the public schools, government, and politics.

Yes, I do realize that. I spent 20 years in christianity. I understand completely. What I don't like are the fundies who try to say who is and who is not a christian based on their own narrow-minded views of christianity. I don't like that christianity isn't unified on much of anything, yet claims its way is the only way.. it's a mess.. and yet, us non-believers are supposed to follow "The only way".. so which way is that?
You do understand why we don't believe, right?

I think most atheists have problems with textual christianity, that means what the bible and the church teach to be literally true. Thats what gets me, most people are cafeteria christians, they take what they agree with and live their life. the only problem with that is that the church says that is wrong, and it is dishonest for cafeteria christians to do so. If you're not going to believe all of it like it says you should, why believe any of it?

I think the fact that so many people can get so many different interpretations and meanings from the exact same "holy book" just goes to show how ambiguous and unreliable that book is as a tool of "God" to speak to mankind. Surely God would have spoken more clearly so that there could be no doubt what he expects of his followers.

I think it's good, a lot of people think you have some kind of hindrance on your beliefs if you are religious, I like the difference of opinion especially when it is from people with the same core beliefs, it's interesting.
