I am honestly curious, please tell me why a vegan or raw vegan diet offers more protein than consuming fish and/or beef, pork, chicken, etc (and no other reasons about veggie vs. meat!). I am yet to be convinced.

Great responses so far (thank you)! What foods (veggie/fruits) do you get calcium from? Any recommendations for great vegan recipe books?

Also, what about the "we have canine teeth" argument (as I do favor it). I'd be surprised if someone could convince me we are herbivores.

If someone is a vegetarian then there is no problem because protein is in eggs and milk etc...but for your question, it is harder for a vegan but not impossible and there are also many supplements...it is just that pound for pound meat contains more protein than non-meat products...

The teeth argument...humans have incisors, canines and molars, and, for those of you who do not know biology, that means that we are meant to be omnivores (for the even less educated that means you can eat veg and meat)...humans are not carnivores...humans are not herbivores...HUMANS ARE OMNIVORES AND ARE DESIGNED TO EAT MEAT AND VEGETATION...further biological proof is the fact that we have enzymes which digest proteins specifically from meat, the positioning of our eyes and ears...anyone that says otherwise is an ignorant fool, veganism and vegetarianism are choices and seem to have little downsides...

any way i'm off topic...a vegan diet does not offer more protein, because a non-vegan can eat all the stuff a vegan eats plus extra so the argument is silly

You are stuck in the PROTEIN MYTH.
It's PR by the various coalitions for those products. Cattle, Dairy, Pork, Poultry, Eggs etc.
Once upon a time, being Rich meant to be fat to be able to afford rich foods especially meat. This is not true good, great health is not based on those kinds of foods or diets. We (our human bodies) were made to eat Veggie & Fruits. Everything else is less than ideal for us.
Until you look into this fully you will not be convinved. Try reading: Live to Be 100, by John Robbin, The China Study, Hallelujah Diet, go on line & visit some sites that have testomonies on health. Dr. John McDougal,at www.drmcdougal.com, Dr. Ornish, Rev. Malkmus at www.harces.com. There are life changing/ life saving proof these diets are the best way to go.

The issue isn't "more" protein - it's better proteins. When you eat raw foods, you have to pay a lot more attention to what you are getting, and usually spend more time eating. You eat zero filler, no empty calories and no empty carbs. That means that all the foods you DO eat are very heathy for you. If you look at a 2000 calorie diet, and try to eat 2000 calories of raw foods, you are going to consume a lot of legumes and veiges which will boost your protein and mineral intake.

Studies have shown that Raw Vegan diets lead to stronger bones, which was inverse of standard nutritional thinking. The research showed that by living closer to the earth, growing their own produce and eating raw/sustainable foods, the people were naturally getting a better mixture of nutrients for healthier bodies (i.e. Calcium, Vits A, D, K, etc). They didn't have to specifically try for more vitamins, it just happens.

There are other sources of protein that are just as good. Protein is protein..it does not matter where it comes from. Whole grains, beans, nuts etc. can all replace meat as far as protein goes and the risk for heart disease and certain cancers are greatly reduced.

The average person takes in too much protien! Average person needs about 40-50 gr of protien per day. It is not a matter of eating as much protien as possible per day, but getting the correct amount.

Protien is like any other nutritional need, you only need so much. Too much can be bad for your health.

Just about everything we eat contains protien, by cutting out meat most people can get the average recommended protien required for thier body, instead of over consuming.

It has nothing to do with offering more protein. It's the fact that
most omnivorous people associate meat as the only source of protein. This is intentional and wasn't of your own choosing, it's been literally 'fed' to you all your life as you've seen it on TV and in public. How often do you see a tv ad campaign promoting 'Got beans?' or 'Tofu, the other white meat.'

People who eat meat regularly usually eat processed meat and are used to getting protein this way. They typically aren't versed in styles of cooking other sources of protein and dishes full of other protein rich foods aren't alway as readily available in an average restaurant in the US as say..meat is.

Peanut butter has about as much protein ounce for ounce as chicken or steak. Granted it isn't as complete but thats a comparison based on content only. IT's very easy to eat a diet completely compiled perfectly of amino acids and sufficient protein. The average person only needs about 30-50grams of protein a day based on sex and size. People of varying degrees of work or athletics may require more.

Your body tells you how much you need to eat..if you don't believe me eat anything you want to when you get a craving for a week strait. Keep track of what you eat and have no guilt or concern over what you're eating, but don't overeat. You will be amazed after 7 days that you will have eaten the same amount of calories give or take 50-100 each day as well you will have eaten roughly the same amount of protein if you have those foods available to you each day.

Our bodies subliminally associate how much nutrition foods give us because we ourselves are familiar with the foods we eat and prepare. When you see bowl of cereal with fruit your body somehow associates the nutrition you get with it after its been consumed. I have nothing to back this up as it is purely my own belief, but I believe it completely. It's the same with how we can eat anything and develop a taste for it, as our body learns to make anything we survive off of taste at least somewhat palatable to us. This is also why foods that taste extreme to us should be eaten in moderation and why poisons or other dangerous foods are not appealing.

The easy answer is that vegan diets are protein deficient. Other than beans, most vegetables have little or no protein. And you know the result of eating lots of beans. You have to avoid open flames.

Humans are a predatory species, and our bodies were intended to operate on a meat rich diet.

Compare the eyes of herbivores and carnivores. Herbivores have their eyes set to either side of their heads so they can watch for predators more easily if they are trying to sneak up from the rear or sides. Carnivores have binocular vision, their eyes are set to the front of their heads so that they can better spot
their prey. Humans have binocular vision.

Compare the teeth of herbivores and carnivores. herbivores have teeth that are mainly used for grinding their rough plant food, with some cutting teeth in front to cut the herbiage off the branches. Carnivores have fewer molars, and in addition to cutting, teeth, they have large incisors, aka fangs for grabbing their prey and holding it. Humans have pronounced incisors.

Humans were intended to eat meat. Vegans are just scrawny fanatics with bad breath and gas.

And in the FWIW Department, a few weeks ago a vegan couple were convicted of negligent homicide of their infant. They put their newborn infant on a strict vegan diet. The child staved, he died of malnutrition. That gives you and idea of how healthy a vegan diet is, especially for growing children.
