A lot of people don't eat meat because they know it is killing the animal. But at the same time many are pro-choice.
How can you be both?
I am pro-life, vegetarian.

You can be both if you are a hypocrite. (Or if you value the life of an animal more than the life of a human.)

A lot of people don't eat meat because of the health concerns raised by the production process. A lot of people don't eat meat as a protest against living conditions for the animals, or because of a religious mandate.
At the same time, they may think that no matter how they feel, they have no right to legislatively impose their opinion upon others; or they may realize that think medical decisions are the business of only the person, their family, and their doctor, not the government. That's what pro-choice is about, it's realizing that even though a thing may be morally repugnant, it's not the government's business to protect us from ourselves.

most of the answers assume you mean pro-choice to be the abortion issue. Surely you mean pro-choice to choose about being veggie or not ?? If not, i'm lost.

"pro-veggie-choice" is about respect for other people.

I'd be happy to educate others on the treatment of animals if they ASKED me.

But most don't ask , and don't want to know . ramming it down thier throats is no way to educate people. They either want to learn, or they do not.

Lay out your belief in a logical non-intrusive way, some will listen.

Would you apply the same arguement to every life choice, or just those that YOU believe in ? If you think everyone should not be pro-choice about something then i guess you'd be happy for all those racists to come knocking on your door to try to persuade you thier choice was correct.

....see, when its something you don't like its horrible and you wish they would give you YOUR right to choose

can't have it both ways.

Education:
Trannyboy, you do not need to be an omnivore for your body to function, you get B12 from many sources.

I am vegetarian and totally prochoice.

I believe that there are already plenty of unwanted children in this world. Who would pro life legislation effect? Not the rich or middle class, but the poor, young, etc.

What would happen to all these children. I believe there would be an increase in child abuse, possibly the reintroduction of orphanages. I think it is tragic enough that many children grow up in foster homes without parents, and eventually end up aging out of the system. In a way I think pro-choice is pro-life, I am for the children already born into this world that live without the security and love of a family. We need to fix these problems first.

What I find hypocritical is the pro-lifers. How many people that are prolife have adopted African American babies, sick, drug addicted babies, mentally/physically handicapped, etc. Not many, I also find it interesting that people in America will go all the way to China to adopt a healthy white baby instead of adopting an African American baby in the United States.

I don't know how people can do that! I was just havnig this same convo w/ my bff last night. We were talking about how people who are pro-life are for the death penalty. Wha? And like you said, how are vegetarians and vegans pro-life? Makes no sense to me
I'm staunchly pro-life and a vegetarian. I'm also against the death penalty.
::Edit::
I hadn't read the posts before me and I am quite appalled at how people think a human life is a "choice". That totally breaks my heart. Only God has the right to take a life - be it human, animal or otherwise. That is NOT our place.

I am pro choice.
I am an omnivore.

I am pro choice because I am not going to make other people's choices. I am not smart enough to play god for anyone.

I am an omnivore because I believe my body requires B12 to function.

Incidentally I am also pro choice for euthanasia and anything else that doesn't endanger anyone but the person making the choice.

Read the Federalist Paper #10 - we must allow factions to continue in this country and not let a majority rule and force their beliefs on everybody - it's been that way since the earliest years of this country and explains why it is a great country.

It really comes down to a question of religion, or the way I see it that is.

Christianity believes life begins at conception. Other religions believe it begins when the child breathes independently.

We live in a free country, which allows people to choose their religion. There are members of this country that choose to practice no religion, and others choose a religion other than Christianity.

As i don't want people forcing their diets on me, I refuse to push my beliefs on others. My religious beliefs may not mesh with their's, so who is wrong? The people who push their beliefs on others are wrong.

Keep abortion legal and out of the closets, let professionals control it, and do not make it a black market commodity.

I'm pro-choice,
because it seems absurd that gov't
regulates what I can and cannot do to my own body.
A gov't shouldn't possess the strength that it can impose restrictions on what I do, strictly to myself.

I personally think it is absurd that someone can be pro-life but not (even) vegetarian.

As well I'm a vegan and for the legalization of purple sticky punch.

Because, although some VERY ignorant people believe this to be true, pro-choice does NOT mean "let's get abortions." It means that the woman has the right to choose what happens to her body.

Just as you dont want anyone dictating what you eat, why would you want anyone to dictate what you do to your body. Pro-choice is in favor of choice, not death.
