What should I give him to make him feel better besides love? and why would he have shortness of breath?

If he has bronchitis or a respiratory infection he would definitely have shortness of breath. Run a vaporizer to help loosen any mucous he might have that could be causing the shortness of breath also it will help him breath easier also use some Vick's vaporub on his chest to help his breathing have him elevate his head with a couple pillows give him some kind of Tylenol nighttime cold so it will help the symptoms, the fever, and help him sleep also make sure he drinks lots of fluids.

I've had terrible problems with shortness of breath lately. After several trips to the doctor, I was diagnosed with "Walking Pneumonia", which is a mild form of pneumonia that's usually pretty hard to detect. Your husband might have something similar, but shortness of breath can be caused by a million different things. (It could be someting as simple as allergies). If I were him, I'd go get checked out by a doctor, especially since he's running a fever too...

Shortness of breath is a symptom of many things including heart failure and should be taken seriously. Get him to the dr right away.

Shortness of breath can be due to several conditions, but it is always a medical emergency. Don't mess around with it; call his doctor or take him to the ER today!
