I believe I have laryngitis. I have been reading online and it does not look like there is anything the doctor can give me. My throat has been very tender and other than aspirin and aleve I have not been able to stop the pain. I am trying to use home remedies to help sooth the pain rather than taking medication. Can anyone help??

I have a couple of things that might help. My pharmacist told me about this product called Biotene that helped me get my voice back a little more, and soothed my pain, didn't taste bad either. Ask your pharmacist about it, and if it doesn't work for you, keep it for a mouth wash, as that is what it is supposed to be used for. The other solution is one my mom always used to heal my sore throat and larynigitis, it was to put a half a tsp of salt in a glass with a half a glass of warm water to soothe, and gargle a few times every hour to kill the pain, and the salt seems to heal it. Drink tea (hot) black or whatever you enjoy drinking and sweeten with honey. Keep your throat lubricated and don't talk, just whisper to give your larynx a chance to heal. It will help, I know from my experience. Bless you and your painful throat.

1] drink lots of fluids - at least 1/2 gallon a day. If you aren't peeing every 3 hours, you are not drinking enough.
2] alternate cold and hot - hot could be tea, coffee, broth or soup, even cream of wheat or oatmeal.
Cold could include water, jello, pudding, ice cream, juice, lemonade, iced tea, or iced coffee. Avoid carbonated drinks because they make you feel 'quenched' before you drink enough.
3] take your temp. If you are running a fever, you may have strep throat, especially if your throat is very sore. Call the doctor.
4] buy some chloraseptic lozenges - they work really well.
Alternate ibuprofen every 6-8 hours with Tylenol halfway between doses.
5] rest as much as you can
6] if you don't feel a lot better in the next two days, call a doctor for an appointment..

hot water with lemon slices and honey.
the hot water and honey soothe and coat your throat and the lemon slices deliver extra vitamins and citrus oil
make sure you use real fresh lemons from trees, not from a bottle.
another thing you can try is in a rocks glass put
1 shot honey
1 shot fresh squeezed lemon juice and peel
1 shot 151 Bacardi gold (or other favorite High Octane spirits)
after you combine everything in the glass and mix well add hot water to fill the glass

Laryngitis doesn't usually cause pain. You should see a doctor. In the meantime, gargle with warm water and about a teaspoon of salt mixed together.

Another thing to try - warm tea with lemon and honey. Sip slowly.

My boyfriends mother always makes me take this when i am coughing or losing my voice. you take a shot class and fill it half way with honey and the other half you fill with fresh aqueezed lemon and mix. you really have to kind of force it down but you know what it really does help! Feel better soon!
