Your statement actually made me think and your completely right! I've heard in recent months there will be 'a new starbucks' but i have to travel 3 1/2 miles to my nearest recycling centre, if i didn't have my own transport, recycling would be made more difficult to do.

Well it's not a one or the other option! There are more starbucks than recycling containers because Starbucks makes a ****load of money and recycling companies don't make as much money. Plus city govs are mostly lame and don't have them anywhere (why not have one connected to every trashcan?). Some city's (usually the really cool ones) have recycling containers everywhere. Toronto does. Though Toronto also has Starbucks everywhere too.....
Now we just gotta carry our cans around and throw it in our curbside bin when we get home. It's not too hard. Just annoying.

I don't drink coffee, so "Why do people prefer [insert brand name coffee house here]?" already puzzles me. Starbucks do have reusable coffee mugs in which customers can buy and get discount for their refills, but I hardly see people using it.
Brand image, status, convenience and hopeless coffee addiction would be my guess for its popularity over recycling.
As per why isn't there more recycling bins, I can think of many reasons. In London, they eliminated all trash cans in undergrounds after the July7th bombings. Similar measures in US train stations. Recycling bins needs to be monitored at all times and it's very costly in operation.
I find it very inconvenient too. So I try not to buy any bottles or cans in the first place.

The key is awareness. Well done. You are questioning, taking action, recycling and raising awareness. This is the way to make green living an easy, cheap and desirable way of life. Ask the store for recycling bins and keep on doing what you are doing.

actually your question is not at all about how much starbucks is making. Its about how much money goes into advertisment. More money is spent on making people aware of Starbucks than recycling. Why...... the gov has many times more things to fund than our caffeine pushing friends do. Make people more aware of recycling and you just might find it easier to dispose of your water or soda container.

It's all about the money-Starbucks makes money using plastic that will be here 50 years from now.Recycling isn't a money making venture.Unfortunately soon will will have no place to put our garbage and then maybe people will wake up-a bit late don't ya think?

Because most people only pursue recycling for the sake of appearances; same reason they go to Starbucks, I might add.

Only in environmental non advanced countries
I can tell you that it is by far not the case here in Europe and that we have a 4x trashcan on multiple places to have the trash sorted on the trashcan level.
