ok...a joke... like for example:
“Are you religious?”
He said: “Yes.”
I said: “Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?”
“Christian.”
“Me, too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?”
“Protestant.”
“Me, too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?”
“Baptist.”
“Me, too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Church of the Lord?”
“Baptist Church of God.”
“Me, too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or Reformed Baptist Church of God?”
“Reformed Baptist Church of God.”
“Me, too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?”
He said: “Reformation of 1915.”
I said: “Die, heretic scum,” and pushed him off.
funny?

NNY. you are THICK. there is an overwhelming amount of evidence to prove the existence of Charles Darwin, and to prove what his beliefs were. however, there is absoloutely NO BASIS IN FACT for a belief in God. None whatsoever. read the god delusion, by Richard Dawkins, and you will understand what i mean.

the_cricket? i understand what you are saying, but you seem to have missed the point. your joke, whilst very funny, did not actually poke fun AT relgion. it was merely a relgious joke. the point i was trying to make is that religious people generally can't take it when someone makes a light and ammusing joke about their religion. no offence, but i don't agree with you.

Well, I can take a joke, but it all depends. Sometimes, a person will tell a "joke" on here, which is actually a thinly veiled insult. I don't think anyone would appreciate that kind of disrespect.
However, I've heard many religious jokes. One of the funniest was about the Catholic priest, the Mormon elder, the Jewish priest, and the Baptist pastor who were all on a boat in the middle of a lake, fishing.
Suddenly the Catholic priest realized he had forgotten his sunscreen back at the shore, so he walked across the water to get it.
The Jewish priest was amazed, but the other two seemed nonplussed.
A few minutes after the priest returned, the elder realized he had forgotten extra bait, so he walked across the water to the shore to get it.
Not to be outdone, moments later, the Baptist pastor realized he had forgotten his hat, so HE walked across the water to go and get it.
By this time, the Jewish priest was nearly SPEECHLESS with shock. He decided that he had the faith to do the same, so he jumped out of the boat, and immediately started to sink.
"Should we tell him where the stepping stones are?" Asked the Catholic priest.
I have a sense of humor, I just don't like it when people come out and just make fun of my faith. There is a fine line between humor and ridicule. Some of the stuff that passes as "humor" on here is actually ridicule.

I agree! I'm actually christian, but I can read a question posted by an athiest and make a funny comment about it, but some Christians get all huffy and say "get an education" or "you're ignorant". I usually give those guys a thumbs down even if I agree with there point...just because they can't tell that it was meant to be a fun question.

This is actually a very good question, religious people cannot take a joke because I think deep down they do not fully believe in God and spend all their lives on the defencive trying to pretend God exists.

Some people of religious belief expect that everyone should revere as they do, they believe that religion has a special place in society. They think that I should adopt their view of their religion.
Well, I respect their right to believe, but not what they believe and do not think their faith should be out of bounds. Although humour should always be within the reasonable bounds of good taste.
Beware of those that cannot take a joke. They wish to impose their will upon us.

u can be an atheist but still believe in something and also if u speak to people who have very strong beliefs they can take a joke as their belief is so strong that a joke wouldnt hurt them in the slightest, perhaps the not so strong ones need to think about the saying TURN THE OTHER CHEEK, and jokeing on you can work out for youself which cheek that means!!

Well, sometimes it seems we can't take a joke, because of the subject matter. Often, what passes as a joke to an atheist, seems down right sacrilegious to a Christian. Also, are you sure you're joking, or are you joking on the square. If its the latter, its not really joking, its offensive.

It's just one of those things. Right, what are your interests? What would happen if I joked about your interests, in such a way that it would offend you? Of course you wouldn't seem to have a sense of humour at that point. You might even be cursing me.
Think of the christian faith as a deep 'interest', as it were. And by deep, I mean one of those life-dedicating things. So when someone makes a joke about their faith, the one thing their completely dedicate themselves to, of course they'd feel a little peed off.
And by little, I mean a lot.

As long as the joke is in good humor, and not belittling anyone for their beliefs, I enjoy some good fun as much as anyone else.
I don't think such jibes as "Is it true that atheists have no morals?" Or "Should we lock all Christians up in a mental facility?" are very funny, but I don't really mind them too much. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
What does really bother me is remarks like "Jesus had anal sex with the disciples", or "Isn't Jesus just a dead Jew on a stick?"...those sorts of "jokes" are over the top.
I mean, how would you like me to disrespect the Flying Spaghetti Monster?
Or, even worse...
*lowers her voice dramatically*
...
(Atheos, the never-living one)
EDIT:
Oh, sorry...just realized, you are a GODDESS!!...
Ummm...you aren't currently having an affair with either of those non-magnificent un-named non-deities I didn't mention earlier...
I...
*gulp*
hope...
(I really didn't say that!)

Joking about anyones beliefs can be as bad as the worst name calling or worse.....Personal beliefs are important to many people so why joke about them anyway. If you make a joke at Gods expense...be prepared to pay the price and there is a price to pay.
Best wishes, Mike.

Atheist joke..
What do you get when you cross an atheist with a Jehovah's Witness?.... Someone who knocks at your door for no apparent reason.
Christian joke..
God said to Adam, "I am going to make you a helper, a companion. What would you like your companion to be like?" Adam replied, "Well I want someone that is humorous, witty, intelligent, compassionate, caring, loving, trusting, polite, generous and beautiful."
God paused a moment after Adam's wish list and told Adam that a companion like that 'would cost him an arm and a leg.' Adam seemed a little dejected and then brightly replied: "What can I get for a Rib?"
(Many Christians can laugh at a joke, even one at our expense... as long as it's funny.)
