Rushdie is wanted by some Muslims because of one of his books.
However, I personally find the idea of knighthood asinine at best. I see it as a ritual to sooth the souls of the dying embers of the imperial past of England. It's bull.

THE TRUTH!

Due to the boneheads that are Muslims, Rushdie wrote a very accurate and concise book and deserved the knighthood. Now lets consider, how many BAD books are out there about the Christian church for example? (Lets remember there are a good 3 billion or so Christians in the world). Yet they never resort to lets go and kill them tactics and lets face it you cannot say that Christians don't have the power (US, Europe, Russia should be enough).

It basically comes down to thickness. Now lets remember Socrates was killed off by the Ancient Greeks for teaching the revolutionary philosophies that later lead to the foundations of Democracy and here we are a good 6000 years later he is still revered as one of the all time greats. Muslims don't learn a lot do they?

It should also be noted that a Muslim killed Gengis Kahn in his later life but it didn't make the old Mongol Empire lost its place in history. We all know, no Muslim will ever be able to reach such high esteem or intellect.

Salman Rushdie wrote a book called "The Satanic Verses" about the life of Mohammad & the birth of Islam that was, shall we say, less than complementary. The result was that the Islamic establishment went postal & declared that Mr. Rushdie was to be hunted down & killed. Naturally they hate that he has received any kind of honor or recognition, never mind actually being knighted.

From what I understand, your question is something like this:

Why are non-Muslims in Britain afraid of Muslims because they decided to praise an apostate?

Well, that's is very nice of the Muslims. They are praising a non-Muslim, yet the British have the nerve to be more afraid of them. The Muslims are doing something nice, so why are the British getting mad?

It doesn't make sense. Why would Britain be Islamophobic if the Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman just praised a non-Muslim? That's very rude of the British...

In his book Mr. Rushdie depicted Mohommad as he was depicted in the muslim holy book that told about mohommads life. Since Rushdie was not muslim he was slandering their prophet, who was know to have done all the things Rushdie mentioned.

salman rushdie depicted the prophet in a bad light which muslims were offended greatly by, i speak as a muslim. therefore by him receiving the knighthood, muslims feel that its a personal attack to them and that there views should have been considered.

I have and read "The Satanic Verses" and it's very well written, Rushdie deserved the honor. What we around the world think about Islam is what Muslims themselves have looked for. But, as usual it's easier to blame others than to accept our guilt.

sadly it seems that Muslims can't let a day pass by without getting angry over something or other (or so our media would have us believe). Clear thinking and intelligent Muslims must be shaking their heads in disbelief now Pakistan has encouraged suicide bombers to act because a writer has been given an award. This is insane behaviour.

I think he is a terrific writer and thinker (I wish we'd followed his post-9/11 advice), as well as remarkably courageous. He lived a commitment to freedom of expression in ways most of us would never think to. If I were British, I'd be proud to claim him. The militant Muslims and British nationalists, so much more alike than they care to admit, can soak their heads. They lost this one, and thank the Gods for that.

satanic verses is highly entertaining - I have it and it is one of by favorite reads!

I'm not quite sure what the knighthood has to do with anything , but once again I find it ridiculous that the only way for Muslims to fight back is by KILLING him - doesn't say much about intellect or intelligence!

as a conclusion I am now aware that killing is just another way do dominate , or wish to dominate - just like dictators do!

NOW LETS SEE HOW MANY THUMBS DOWN I CAN ACCUMULATE BECAUSE I SPEAK MY MIND!

and by the way - this is not meant as a anti Muslim comment but just an observation!
