I am throwing a party for a large crowd and want to provide the most extravagant and unusual selection of ice cream toppings. I especially need ideas for creating sugar-free ice cream sundaes with unusual toppings.

Please refrain from suggesting inappropriate or disgusting toppings. I can imagine thousands of my own.

Thank You!

Try sugar free jellybeans (Jelly Belly brand is THE best) or gummy bears, crumbled sugar free cookies or granola, nuts, fresh fruit (dried fruit is tasty, but if someone is diabetic then you'll want to steer clear of it because the natural sugars in any fruit are concentrated when dried), crumbled baked flour tortillas sprinkled with some cinnamon and splenda, it's super tasty and sugar free and tastes like the fried ice cream that a lot of restaurants are selling (who needs *fried* ice cream anyway... just take a pastry brush and lightly spread a thin coat of melted butter if you don't mind the fat, I just use water, sprinkle the cinnamon and splenda on, and bake until crispy on a cookie sheet), anything you can think of can be turned into an ice cream topping, the possibilities are endless. Just take a walk through your local supermarket or try some health food stores.

Is it just me, or am I the only one suggesting sugar free toppings?

Sugar Free Ice Cream Toppings

I suggest putting some diced fruit on there.... Strawberries, bananas, mangoes... anything like that would taste great on vanilla ice cream!

Here's a website I'd try..... I'm pretty sure there's a link to sugar-free toppings somewhere on this page!
http://www.smuckers.com/fg/ict/default.asp?groupid=4

and I got this list from About.com:
Animal Crackers
Chopped candy bars
Coconut, toasted
Fruit (dried, fresh, frozen or canned)
Jimmies (Chocolate Sprinkles)
Malted Milk Powder
Macadamia Nuts
Oreo Cookies
Pecans, Toasted
Pretzels
Spanish Peanuts
Sprinkles
Vanilla Wafers
Walnuts, Toasted
White Chocolate Chips
etc. (Use your imagination, the possibilities are endless)

..... So hope I helped!

-toasted coconut
-salted mixed nuts, chopped fine (the mixed nuts are what Baskin Robbins serves)
-melted sugar free jam thinned with a little juice for sauce
-You can make a 'Magic Shell' topping out of melted sugar free chocolate and melted butter (unsalted). It will freeze hard on the ice cream like the real thing
-strong coffee mixed w/a little splenda
-Whipped cream (the real thing w/Splenda) or Land O' Lakes makes a sugar free version. You could flavor it w/coconut extract for fun. Especially good w/nuts
-soy crispies (like rice krispies)
-Wheat germ
Here's my favorite whacky ice cream topping of all time:
dry Cocoa Mix--ate it all of the time as a kid, but Swiss Miss makes a sugar free diet cocoa mix that is good...

Sugar free is always challenging (I've Somersized now for 5.5+ years so sugar is a rare treat for me). Have you tried Low carb stores? You can get some SF peanut butter, all nuts are great, check the weight loss section at your local stores (maybe cut up protein bars--of course not all brands taste nice, my favorite is a SUZANNE bar but of course since I sell them I would), Toast up some fresh coconut (its so hard to find SF coconut). There are some great SF ice creams and a caramel topping in Suzanne Somers dessert cookbook, but you do need her somersweet to make it, that you can get from SuzanneSomer.com (I don't sell this). Get some Low carb brownies and cut up. If you go for fruit, go for berries since they are the lowest in natural sugar content.

Try sweetening some nuts with your choice of sweetener and cinnamon. I like Somersweet or Splenda. You can lightly saute the nuts in butter and toss in the mixture.

Remember any SF topping will have a bad tummy effect for some guests so if they aren't used to it warn them!

Try dried fruits but watch so many have sugar in them. You can find some without sugar at a health food store but be prepared to pay a high price for them.

You can try taking SF syrups and reducing them on the stove top for a thick syrup, I've not tried this but it might work out well. Or if you like get SF jellies and melt them for a hot topping.

Want a simple SF ice cream? Get a bag of frozen berries, add to your blender along with a little sweetner and then pour in some cream (for Low carbers, or plain yogurt for low fat followers) and blend away. Talk about a to die for SF ice cream, you wont need toppings but you could just add fresh fruit on top of these.

Great combinations:
pineapple, coconut and banana
Strawberries, crushed gram crackers, whip cream (strawberry cream pie) sub berries for any type cream pie idea.

How about pumpkin pie filling thinned and heated with say cream and a little sweetner? top with nuts and nutmeg or cinnamon (or if you like use sweet potatoes)

From the two ideas below think of any pie and use the filling as a topping, like a pie al a mode:)

Best of luck,
Julie

Can anyone have alcohol? I have a great hot cherry topping. The basic recipe is a can of cherry pie filling, about 1/4 cup of amaretto, and just a tiny splash of almond extract. Heat all that up on low-ish heat until the alcohol has mostly evaporated. It's really great on pound cake too.

I have a great recipe for vanilla ice cream sundae.
get some rippen bananas, and granola cereal. Slice the bananas on a angle and brown in a non-stick pan with Pam cooking spray. add pinch of cinamon, and a pinch of vanilla extract. add granola cereal to the pan (for a hot minute) and serve over vanilla ice cream with a swig of mint on the side.

You can add:

•Diced Fruit
•Jelly Beans
•Gummi Bears
•Rolled up chocolate chip cookie dough chunks
•Break up some Oreo cookies
•Chocolate chips
•Caramel Candies
•Soft and chewy candies
•Big bowl of chocolate syrup and brownie chunks all mixed together so they can drizzle it on top =]

Hope I gave you some fairly creative ideas. Have fun! =]
