There are some STD's that are not protected by condoms, such as crabs, pubic lice, HERPES, and many others. Just because the factories make them, doesn't mean they are accurate, and really is PROTECTION!!!!

If there is a disease transmission vector not covered by the condom, then the condom won't be of any help.

Open Herpes sores, lice or crabs which infest hair and many wart producing diseases are among those who infect by means not protected by condoms.

If your partner has Open Herpes sores and AIDS, then you're at risk for both, regardless of the condom. That said, condoms can protect against herpes when there are no open sores.

There's a reason a lot of advocates are pushing the term "Safer sex" instead of "Safe Sex." Condoms offer a LOT of protection from various diseases, but nothing will protect a person from a lack of education and knowledge.

It's a shame so many "abstinence only" sex ed programs amount to little more than scare mongering and inaccurate information. People are really hurting today's youth by not giving them all the relevant information, and by tainting what little information they do get with fear mongering and panic.

You are right about that. If you read a condom box carefully and the leaflet provided with it, you will notice that it promises absolutely zip. The way that the abortion clinic operators go on, you would think that condoms were more important to humankind to penicillin. In reality, the one thing necessary to have an abortion in the USA is some sex, so the more risk people are taking, the more cash in the register.

True - but crabs, lice, etc, generally won't kill you like AIDS, or cause the same severity of symptoms like gonorhea, syphilis, etc.

Condoms aren't perfect, but they're a lot better than nothing. Your logic is like saying that since a seat belt won't save you in a 90 mph head-on crash, you shouldn't wear one at all.

add hpv to that list! condoms do not protect against the many viruses that are transmitted from skin to skin contact since they do not cover the entire genital region. besides that they tend to break often unless they are prorperly lubricated.
