I have a pretty big 2 story house plus basement, so which will use less energy, running 5 standing fans at once or turning on the ac?

Well, you feel better with AC. Also, keep your AC running unless you leave for an extended amount of time because the energy it takes to get hot air out of a hot house is more than the energy to keep a cool house cool.

But yeah, fans use less energy.

I haven't seen an AC unit yet that uses less then 1000Watts of power and most use much more than that.

As for fans, they tend to use about 30-90 Watts of power depending on how large they are. Assuming large fans 5x90 watts means about 450 watts of power per hour or less than half of what the AC unit does.

It depends on when your comperor comes on ! Also what kind of fans . If you set it to about 80 degrees and have a couple of fans to help pull the air around this usualy helps cool and doesn't run the bill up to much.

5 fans. It requires a lot of energy to pump out heat. It doesn't take much energy to make blades rotate.

Probably the fans. Depends upon the wattage ratings.

AC consumes more energy.

generally the fans will use less amperage, however the AC is what dehumidifies your home, so I wouldnt recommend turning it completely off, just turn it up.
