my dad is turning 50--a party is out of the question since he's shy. it would embarass him if we made a big to-do over him. my family has a few family friends we could have a party with, my brother, his girl, me and my husband, my mom and dad obviously--and like 4 other couples. do you think that just dinner in the back yard (very tropical) would be a nice surprise or would it hurt his feelings?

any other ideas? we are kind of on a shoe string budget

(my dad is in to the outdoors--hunting, hiking, fishing...and he is a pro. duck decoy carver.----if that helps at all.)

Have a party BBQ with the outdoors as the theme. Cook fish and game. Only invite his family and best friends. Be sure to video it.

Since you are on a budget, why not give your party a 1950's theme? It would tie into his age. Diner food could be served such as hot dogs and hamburgers, macaroni and cheese etc. Go to Party City and see the great 50's decorations they have. They are really inexpensive. Add some pink, black and aqua crepe paper and balloons, and you have a fun party. You might consider serving milkshakes ( with spirits added).

Since your dad loves to hunt and fish.....stay along those lines. I find that giving something to a love one or a friend that they truly love is the best way to go. has he mentioned a fishing gear or hunting clothes or something along those things that he wish he could have? or here's a thought everybody that is coming over chip in together on the cost of a cabin that's near hunting grounds? That is something that I know he will really love and enjoy . if this helps please let me know. Good luck
