The fact that electronic devices in standby modus are responsible for a substantial power use, why do most manufacturers off these products leave us with the only option off pulling out the power cords to save electric power?

If this is a well known fact, then why don't we say bye bye standby allready?

I unplug most of my stuff anyhow for many reasons. I also turn off my surge protectors for my TV and Computer every night. I think that the battery's in the product is still taking the charge off the plug and even if its on standby the product isn't saving power but still slowly taking more is all. I can save more power by just shutting it off like I do. I cant stand standby at all.

What most people don't do is take in the fact of how much power they use. So what should be don't is a little test on what is in your home. Now what people never do is look at there meter outside the house and if its moving fast then turn some stuff off and always look at how fast it moves the slower the better. I have learned that every house I move to is different and I have to see how slow I can make that meter move so I test out a few lights as well as the always plugged in things that I have to have like the alarm clock ( I don't have a plug in one anymore so I use my cell phones alarm), Frig, my kids night light ( cant wait tell that gets to be tossed), and the water tank. SO I start to turn on and turn off some things in my house and then at night when I go to bed I make sure I know what to turn off at night and I make it a every night thing I do. I check my meter once a week to make sure its not moving to fast.

Because constantly plug and unplugging may shorten the life of some devices, which will make the manufacturers do more work in the warranted period.

Some devices need to be in stand-by mode because they are time sensitive, like VCR or DVR when using time recording.

Many North American homes are built with a switch by the door of each room that can turn off outlets. If you do not want to plug and unplug these devices, you may plug them to these corresponding outlets so you can switch them off easily.

You can also plug those electronics that work together onto one extension so you can switch them off at once.

Other way, from my brilliant dad, is to add a switch on your plugs before the outlets. These switches can be found in dollar stores. Instead of going around unplugging, you can just flip that switch.

Yup, I knew that.

The reason we don't change it is because we value the convenience.
We talk the talk about saving the planet but don't walk the walk.
We know the internal combustion engine screws the planet but do we try and come up with an alternative?....

Do we hell as like!

We carry on as before because it's easier and cheaper in the short term to do that.
Eventually of course the price will be more than we can afford to pay once we have an uninhabitable planet.

So, any surprise we get stand by options under those circumstances?

I first became aware of this years ago, when I used to unplug my VCR when it was not in use. I discovered that my electric bill went down $2.00 a month because of it. Now everything is plugged into a surge protector in my home, except for the refrigerator.
