Higher than normal hemoglobin levels can be seen in people living at high altitudes and in smokers. Dehydration also produces a falsely high hemoglobin which disappears when proper fluid balance is restored. Some other infrequent causes are lung disease, certain tumors, a disorder of the bone marrow known as polycythemia rubra vera, and abuse of the drug erythropoietin (Epogen) by athletes for blood doping purposes. Your lung infection is probably the cause. If the hemoglobin level gets too high, the doctor may order phlebotomy. They simply take a pint of blood (just like they do when you donate blood). The levels should return to normal after your lung infection clears up. Don't worry about the hemoglobin, just concentrate on getting better. Good luck.

- The amount of hemoglobin can rise in case of the person who live in the mountain, or work in place lack of oxygen.
-Beside that, it can be found in the patients who have got chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
