I would phone and check with the airline just because of the new restrictions to do with carrying liquids on board - you may need to have a doctors letter to carry with the insulin?! Make sure you are prepared for delays and think about changes you may have to make because of time zones. Your travel insurer should also be aware of his diabetes - other than that - be as normal and have a great time!

Being a diabetic my self,I did not contact the airline.
I took all medication in my hand luggage, just in case.Have something sweet with you if sugar level drops. You don't
say if how old he is ?if you he drinks a alcohol i have,
in moderation is pills larger.
Just let your son carry on like he dose at home.
Have a lovely holiday.

Make sure he carries a doctors letter with a stamp on it. Put his kit for testing in his pocket a "pen" and several needles. DONT PUT THEM IN HIS SUITCASE. If they lose it he has sh1t it.
Tell the airline preferably before you fly.
I have a bag that is easily opened and put the meter, needles and test piques with strips in supplied to me with a couple of "pens" and stick it in my pocket.
If you arrange to give it to a hostess then there should not be a problem.
