I went to a health fair and got my blood glucose tested. I had not eaten in 4 hrs, but had drank a Red Bull about 30 min. earlier. When they did the test, the nurse said it was 145. She was shocked when I said that I did not have diabetes. She said that was really high. She said the Red Bull could have affected it because of all the sugar. But I still don't know if 145 is that high...?

It is high. Talk to your doctor and have it tested. You will have to do a fasting blood glucose test. Typically that means that you can't eat from 8-12 hours (they'll tell you what they want) prior to the blood draw. It is very possible that the Red Bull, especially if you had an empty stomach, could be responsible for a lot of that number, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Diabetes is VERY manageable if caught early.

Yes, the Red Bull could have had enough time to affect your sugars. In people who are not Diabetic the sugars come down after a time. In someone who is not Diabetic the sugars stay up. For meals a range of 140 (even 145) is ok. And yes some other drinks like the Red Bull can affect sugar readings.

The only way to know for sure if this number is too high for you or if you are Diabetic is to make an appt with your dr to have them run the appropriate tests such as fasting glucose levels.

You can get your own blood glucose test at Walgreens. The last time I took my test, it was 109. I was told that was pretty good but I don't eat a lot of sugar. You need to take it again. If I had eaten a cupcake I am sure it would have been higher. Do you have other symptoms? Are you thirsty all the time??? Pee a lot??? That is not something to play with. If you have medical insurance it would probably cost as much to go to the doctor and have him test you.

In that case you should go see your doctor he or she's the only ones that can tell you for sure that you have Diabetes or not. We're not doctors and we don't have a glucose meter here on YA's.
