Me, my husband and 3 kids just moved into a new house that we are renting and not buying. I was told from friend and family that we should and that it was fine, but still feel kind of funny since we are not buying the house. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Oh, it's totally okay to have a housewarming party, renting or no! You want to show off your place, don't you?

If you still feel kind of funny about it and pretty much have everything you need, specify that you are not accepting gifts. You just want everyone over to check the place out!

Congratulations!

I think it's fine but when you do move into a house that you are buying, you may want to label THAT party an "open house" rather than a "house warming" so people don't feel obligated to buy you a second gift, if that's what you are worried about. Or vice versa, if you'd rather wait and get the gifts on the house you buy.

Congrats on the house!

I have always thought of a housewarming party as celebrating that you are in a new place. Me and my boyfriend are having one. It is our first place together and we are renting an apartment. I asked a few close friends of mine and they think it's a neat idea. I say go for it..you're in a new place, share it with everyone! Take Care

I think it's fine as long as you aren't expecting gifts from people because it seems kind of weird to throw your own party and expect gifts. However, if you want to have it so everyone can come over and have fun and see your new place, nothing wrong with that.

Of course its fine, its a new home that you and your family are living in. But I guess it all depends on how long you will be living there. I suggest if you were planning to rent the home for 6months or longer than start planning the geust list! =)

I can not think of anyone,, that would not be anything less than excited,, at the idea of a party.
Buying is not an issue
Knowing your neighbors
if you can help them
they have special services to offer you.

I think it is fine. We had one when we moved into our rental. It was the nicest place we've been, so we wanted to invite friends over to see our new place.

Don't call in a housewarming
that means you want gifts,
just tell them you are having a
get together, then if they want
to bring a gift OK, if not Oh
Well!!! (Never for a rental!!!)

Have a nice dinner, note that you don't want/need gifts(corny but still works:"The only gift we need is you!"), and just enjoy!

Unless you feel it's too much work. You aren't required to do it, after all!
