Read the above..this is a local news story for me and I can't believe it. Cooking oil?
I'm not going to stereotype and say he did it because he's a meat eater. I will say though for !@#$ sure you'd never see a vegetarian or vegan doing this. Another cruel example of why the world would be better off if everyone were vegans.

Summer_time - No I don't. I really think you don't comprehend though :) all I insinuated was that if everyone respected animals to the degree that vegans do no one would do something like that. In fact I thought I made it very clear what I meant...maybe you had too much flesh for breakfast? (There's your stereotype!)

Endive - Your correct there is no link. I never claimed that it caused it. You just assumed as typical. I basically said being vegan would prevent the possibility of ever harming an animal.
"People feed rats to boa constrictors all the time." -yep, true.
"according to your so called vegan gods (Ingrid Newkirk)" my so called? where'd you get that? I didn't even know who that was till now when I searched..I told you I have no interest in peta and never did. I didn't even know it was a woman president till a few weeks ago.
They are all mammals. yes?
"So how is feeding a puppy to a snake any different than feeding a rat?"
It's not typically - in the a wild scenario, but I understand you like to play the fool so I'll make it clear to everyone else (I know you already know.)

They are fed dead animals that are ideally humanely killed (I don't agree with this either but I'm making a point.) Not live puppies slathered in vegetable oil.
Secondly I 'didn't' argue that a puppy is cuter? So why did you say "I can all I want?"
Stop looking for attention by instigating false arguments into my life and stop contacting me outside of yahoo.

Vegan and proud - I couldn't watch it..as soon as I saw the goat with the boa I cringed and clicked 1/4 the way in and saw it constricting and freaked out. That's awful though. =\

I have no prob with nature takings it's course in the wild. I don't think lions should eat potatoes. I'm putting this out there cause I know readers will assume certain things..like 'I can't accept reality.'
There is a difference between enforced cruelty by taking advantage of animals instincts and a wild animal doing what it knows best to survive. I wouldn't expect any less mercy from a lion then a gazelle would, but at least I can die knowing I don't feed off of captive animals that can't defend themselves if they wanted too. I'd love to watch anyone who thinks they can take down a bull with there 'omnivorous' designed body. We are prey, we always have been..we just got bent and are on a species wide ego trip because we fed off of dead animals for so long in the beginning that our lust and domination evolved with our ancestors. It wasn't because we're predators, its cause we were cowards and spent most our time hiding in shelter plotting how to take advantage of anything we could.

I agree Lenka.. it's too bad you don't have to have some sort of vocational schooling to own pets. I don't really agree with owning exotic pets as I think its unnecessary and unfair to the said pet and lifetime of 'food', but as far as dogs and cats we just took in 5 stray kittens recently and you chose the lesser of evils. Ideally we shouldn't have meat feed for any pets unless its recycled natural carcass. It would be more cruel though not give these 5 cats a chance in life and an insult to any cows already bagged up in cat food as I can't completely change anything presently. I think if my life was taken in vain or even naturally I'd have no problem with it being consumed if it meant helping another creature.
I'm just glad I have the sentience during my awakened life to choose compassion and not have to resort to instinctual brutality.
We all do..some are just asleep still =)

Dusted- Regardless of the factor of possibly mental problems, a vegan with mental problems would still not harm an animal..I wasn't saying because he was a meat eater he did that. I was saying an absolute such as that would by default 'prevent' the possibility of animal cruelty since thats the basis of belief behind the vegan lifestyle.
So many people in life need to stop reading between the lines so much and comprehend word for word what others say and stop contaminating peoples comments by trying to assume knowing what they meant..if you just pay attention you can see exactly what I meant. You all need to learn the difference between cause and prevention and how they can effect each other based on ratios.

I wouldn't say he did it because he is a meat eater. But he sure is a warped individual!
Quite a shocking act of cruelty all together, the snake was only doing what it's instincts told it to do.
This is why I believe there should be a blanket ban on the keeping of exotic animals. They are only there as a trophy in the minds these people. You can't exactly pet or stroke a snake after all.

" I will say though for !@#$ sure you'd never see a vegetarian or vegan doing this. Another cruel example of why the world would be better off if everyone were vegans."
No, that's bollocks. Veggies are generally more sympathetic to animals, but that's why they're veggies, not the other way round. People who are cruel to animals won't go veggie, will they? If everyone were veggie there'd still be these incidents, as a veggie diet wouldn't change the facts of these peoples nature. Someone like that wouldn't choose to go vegan, but if they did go vegan for whatever reason, it would change nothing.
It's like the old 'veggies are more intelligent' argument. The evidence shows it's because stupid people are less likely to change their diet, and that's no surprise, but you still get people saying the diet improves their intelligence.
There are more veggie women than men, does that mean if everyone were a veggie there'd be more women than men?

You said: "I'm not going to stereotype and say he did it because he's a meat eater. I will say though for !@#$ sure you'd never see a vegetarian or vegan doing this." NO ...a vegan did the following:
http://crime.about.com/b/a/257415.htm
VEGAN COUPLE GETS LIFE FOR STARVING THEIR BABY
A vegan couple were given life sentences in the death of their six-week-old baby boy, who weighed only three-and-a-half pounds and died of starvation after being fed a diet of mostly soy milk and apple juice. The life sentences were mandatory for their convictions of malice murder, felony murder, involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children.
Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31, were found guilty of the death of their son, Crown Shakur (pictured), May 2 after a jury deliberated seven hours.
Their attorney argued that the couple did the best the could while trying to adhere to their vegan lifestyle, which avoids all animal products. The attorney said they did not realize the baby was in trouble until minutes before he died.
But prosecutors argued that the couple intentionally neglected their child and refused to take him to the doctor.
"No matter how many times they want to say, 'We're vegans, we're vegetarians,' that's not the issue in this case," said prosecutor Chuck Boring. "The child died because he was not fed. Period."
Killing and cruelty to helpless animal is morally repugnant and deseves criminal prosecution. But killing a child by starvation and through blind ignorance is monstrous.
You are a very intolerant and shallow thinking young man and a fool for your age. What a stupid hypothesis that "diet" influences moral choices!!
Every lifestyle and occupation has it's crazy peoplef that are fools whether they are vegans, religious people, academicians, etc. But the person who is a fool and doesn't know it is the greatest fool of all. Congratulations, you've made it to the top of "something". I've reported you for your inappropriate and trollish statements.

What a horrible cruel thing to do!!!!! I don't know if the world being vegan would be a better place, but human beings acting more humane toward animals, environment and each other would be one hell of a change. I think what we should start doing are background checks on people being able to own animals.

dusted, thats silly he didnt stereotype. He pointed out the obvious. A vegan wouldn't do that. Theres a lot of terrible animal abuse stories coming out of where I live (Arizona)..the other day a vet was arrested for actually punching a dog because the dog wouldnt settle down! What is that!?
I dont know, I guess my mind cant wrap itself around the idea of a vegan being capable of intentionally trying to do that, ( i dont want to hear that baby story, those are different circumstances!).. I suppose it could effect anyone..and ok, we all admitted that the vegan parents were mentally defected neglecting their child. So I will cease, and just say anyone is capable of lunacy.. :)

I don' t think it's right to assume he is a meat eater. He is an idiot who did it to impress a couple of kids and show them what a bad-(rectal area) he is.
Idiot boy can impress his new jail buddies now.
Sadly you will see this sort of thing happening in the Vegan community. A couple of people with a radical vegan group dug up the body of an elderly relative of a person who worked at a place that bred animals for use in laboratory testing.
I have to disagree that vegetarians would never harm animals. Hitler was a vegetarian and wasn't exactly pro-animal. He was a vegetarian because his doctors told him he had to be one, which is a bit different but he is still a vegetarian.

veganconscript You are a wordy muther, that's for sure!
Took me long enough to figure you out, you just like to belittle people, for having any belief that isn't yours.
The Law is the Law, this person committed a crime, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced in accordance to the Law, what this man did is deplorable, and 90 days for in prison for his crime is not nearly enough, but if you do not like it, then change the Law.
When you made your proud declaration, "I'm not going to stereotype", it was already to late, you already did, any person weather omnivore or vegetarian, can suffer from mental disease or defect, and can do things most normal person would not choose to do.
You argument would be more valid if the title was, "Cattle Ranch Owner, while eating a hamburger, gets 90 days for feeding puppy to boa constrictor"
EDIT:
Katie G, A vegan can do that, did you not read, any person suffering from a mental defect can commit this act, what they ate for breakfast has no meaning. And to answer your question, a terrible vet.

That man is sick in the head.
People like that should be in straight jackets and shouldn't even be allowed to live amongst the sane.
I find it to be very appalling how so many sick people haven't been institutionalized or got some form of psychological help.
There's more nut jobs that are roaming free than any of us truly realizes!
A couple years ago, in my hometown,(and this made the front page news) a guy was upset at a roommate(who allowed him to live in HER house) b/c she refused to give him one of the puppies that her dog had recently given birth to, so he attempted to murder all 4 or 5 puppies but miraculously only one pup survived. I believe he had slit their throats!!
I've never met a vegetarian/vegan that did not love animals.

His behavior is an example of mental illness. I wish the cure for such were as simple as eating a meat-free diet, but it isn't.
I think you are looking at this backwards. It's the process of developing a conscience, becoming aware of how animals are treated, and taking action to prevent, or at least avoid contributing to it, that causes people to choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. It's not the diet choices that cause the conscience and awareness, etc.
If he were capable of going through the process that leads to a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, he wouldn't be capable of this action, it's true. But his understanding is limited, either by an accident of birth or by cruel treatment of him by others. He deserves our compassion, and to be prevented from hurting others by those of us who are more responsible.
