It doesn't sound like herpes. It sounds like genital warts caused by HPV.

Genital herpes sores are large, red, swollen, PAINFUL sores. These sores can open and puss. You boyfriend would have been in A LOT of pain if it were herpes.

Genital warts are usually small raised bumps that are flesh colored. They do not puss and are not painful, though they can be pretty itchy.

I'd highly suggest he see a doctor. They can test him for herpes using a blood sample. However, there is no test for men to detect HPV. Men are usually diagnosed with HPV when they have a genital wart outbreak. So, if the warts have healed then he won't be able to be diagnosed with HPV until the warts come back (if they ever come back).

I'd also highly suggest you get tested as well. HPV can cause cervical cancer in women. Getting yearly pap smears can detect any abnormalities on the cervix caused by HPV that can develop into cervical cancer. Good luck!

Many guys get harmless bumps. Have him get checked out but it's likely nothing to worry about.

It would be wise to get a test done to be on the safe side.
