Hawaii, out of all of the states, has the ability to use the most alternative energy sources. they have geothermal energy and they have huge 20 foot waves that they can use as energy. Yet they are still 92% dependent on fossil fuels . tell me how that makes sense. they could save tons of money and their pretty beaches if they switched to alternative energy.

Hawaii relies heavily on energy generated from biomass and, in fact, generates more power from biomass each year than any other state except California. Hawaii has used geothermal energy to generate electricity since 1981. Also, photovoltaic technology continues to develop as a new energy source throughout Hawaii, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars annually and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.
But the "reason" they don't use more alternative energy is that most "alternatives" are more expensive!
The market will continue to move towards the least expensive means of providing energy.
In Hawaii, before wave technology will be financially viable, wind generated power will be used. Wind now makes economic sense as a replacement to natural gas at existing prices. Nothing else yet is cheap enough. You may complain about $3.00 a gallon gasoline, but it is cheap! (Imagine if you were to fuel your car on milk, which contains a lot of energy, and is renewable. It still costs more than gasoline!)
When it costs you $0.10 to drive to Taco Bell, and $0.99 for the taco, you don't care. The moment the trip to Taco Bell costs more than the taco, you'll search for an alternative.

Hawaii DOES use renewable in that it uses the decomposition of waste. The waves are ony at certain times of year, and there are huge engineering concerns, ecological concerns as well as ruiining the natural beauty. There are also areas of high winds, that cannot be exploited for the same reason. Yes, Hawaiians would love to have other sources of energy. Because they're so far away from the mainland, the costs of transporting energy are high as well as thee impact of pollution on their beautiful islansd.

Good thinking outside the box, but as a Kamaina, I doubt they could impliment your idea.

quite often i think of that is because of the fact power performance is something that any you possibly can do interior the quick term on a similar time as we artwork on making option power much less costly and obtainable. i do no longer think of absolutely everyone who's heavily interior the fairway marketplace believes that power performance is in lieu of power recommendations. that could be a 2-fold attitude. we could create power recommendations, yet we nevertheless could use that power effectively. there is not any longer likely lots of a distinction between power performance and power conservation. performance is the means via which we use much less (shield) power.
