Do you have any mannerisms or habits? example, do you bite your nails? or spin your ballpen? or even whistle? or play with your dentures? Do you crack your fingers? These habits, do you get any pleasure out of them other than satisfying your mind who asks you to do the habits? When your mind tells you to bite your nails, or play with your dentures, it is difficult to deny the mind. Moreover, when someone asks you to stop cracking your fingers, the more you want to do it cos your mind tells you to do so. Same as smoking, the object of the habit is the cigarette. The nicotine, being addictive is a gentle reminder to the mind to ask the body to get a smoke. The effect is the brain neurons and messages are spaced out by minute smoke matter thus causing the mind to digest thought more slowly, the effect is relaxation. However, there are cases when brain is already filled up with this smoke matter causing headache, and the brain signals the body of the habit to smoke, the body still reacts to get a smoke, at this point there is no pleasure, rather, it is only, like in the beginning, satisfying the gentle reminder of the brain to do the habit. Nicotine being addictive is secondary to the process. The brain was addicted to the process more at first, then nicotine addiction comes in. Thirdly, the thought of the image of smoking as attractive or sexy, or mature, or macho,...or any... kicks in as a factor for the mind to remind the body to smoke. This third factor is actually the mind's method of concealing the image behind the smoker, like a smokescreen. Pretending to be someone you are not, like makeup. There are many reasons why one smokes, but bottomline is that it simply satisfies the mind's urge, the gentle reminder to do the habit.

So, the next time you bite your nails and you cant stop, or play with your dentures and you can't stop, or suck your thumb and you can't stop... i suggest don't start to smoke, you may not be able to stop.

Lets see what is the pleasure in smoking??? It really does calm your nerves. Some people get into it because everyone else is doing it. It is very hard to quit and i honestly do not think they are very pleasurable. It is very addicting. It is also very dangerous in more ways then one. Please if you don't smoke don't start. If you do it is hard to stop trust me I still smoke and am in the process of stopping and it isn't working to well. One day it will.

Nicotine is the main addictive ingredient in tobacco. When nicotine crosses the blood brain barrier, certain neuro pathways are activated that result in extra mental activity. The extra activity is thought to be linked to the pleasure center of the brain.
So basically nicotine makes one feel good and thats why they do it again. Of course, as with many easy indulgences, the effect comes with a price.

It's not a pleasure for the smoker, but a pleasure for the smoker's family when they have to nurse a beloved mother through lung cancer just to bury her 20 years too early. That kind of pleasure I can do without.

I don't know about smoking being pleasurable, but if I don't smoke I tend to get jittery, or anxious. It's kind of sad. I gave up drinking and drugs long ago, but I can't seem to quit smoking. Tobacco is more addictive than alcohol or drugs. Too bad they waited so long to tell me.

I don't know but maybe its because some thinks that they are "cool" or they are "something" if they smoke which i think is not. For me, no matter how beautiful the girl is and i saw her smoking cigarettes it really turns me off. They just contribute pollution and unhealthy environment to live with.

Its a way to relax. For a few minutes you are doing nothing, just sitting there smoking. Its like a time out. Personally I need about 20-30 time outs a day. I have prob. spent over $25,000 on smoking in my life. Worst habbit ever. And on top of that chances are it eventually kills you. Im dumb. Think its time to quit.
