If you want to give her a food item instead of a non-food gift, and she doesn't generally like non-Indian foods, then try a Plain New York Cheesecake. Or some (gourmet) vanilla ice cream (mango and pistachio ice cream are also good choices).

Most Indians I know who don't like non-Indian food seem to like plain cheesecake and vanilla ice cream.

Also, if she has children, then she may appreciate something for them if you can't think of what to give her.

Hope that helps.

Get her a nice flower bouquet or a box of candy. Or, you can make some food for her or get her some different kind of food to try. I am Indian and would like these gifts.

Is she vegetarian? Then a nice dessert type food that she could enjoy over several days would be nice.Brownies, chocolate chip cookies,or a fruit cobbler would be appropriate.

Mixed live herbs in a "French Garden Basket", always a winner.
