running and biking are completely different.
Running is hard on your joints and works mainly your hamstrings (the backs of your legs).
Biking is easier on the joints, but doesn't burn energy as quickly; it mainly works your quads (the front of the legs).
If you don't exercise both groups, you'll quickly have knee pains... so ideally, you should do both.

Running is more simple and more accessible. All one needs is a pair of running shoes. If one goes on a trip, simply step out of the hotel, and take off. Running is a great way of exploring new places.
Whereas a bicycle requires maintenance, may have flat tires, is more difficult to store. Bicycles and traffic sometimes are not compatible.

I would say that running is the best. Yet bicycling can help you just as well.

They both have their spots.
The bike is MUCH easier to do if I am having an off day. The Bike is tougher on your back every day. Running doesn't require the equipment check before and maintenance after. Running doesn't let you see as much since you are traveling as far.
Running is tougher on your lower joints, but better for your bones. Biking is tougher on your back and bottom but allows you to see more scenery. If it is raining I don't ride.
I give the running the top billing, but there are days I love the bike. And I can't commute to work on running shoes.
