I may be Atheist, but I'm pissed off at "God" because "he" has let many members of my family down. A better way of putting it would be: I'm pissed because my family has put their trust in a God who doesn't help them with the things they need most.
My Great-Grandmother is very sweet and caring, but also very weak due to her old age of 87. Her son lives with and takes care of her. Well, one day he went to get a quick haircut and left her sitting in her chair while he left for 10 minutes but he got caught up in traffic and it took an extra 15 minutes for him to return. When he got there she had fallen out of her chair and asked him "didn't you hear me praying for you to come help me?"
When I heard about this, I was immediately furious that a caring God would let my Great-Grandmother lay helplessly and painfully on the floor for nearly 20 minutes.
Can you really put your trust in your God and depend on him if he lets you down more than once without making up any sort of excuse?

I know it sounds odd for an Atheist to say that they are pissed off at God, when, obviously, they don't believe in any God. I'm mad because friends and family believe in a God, and he has let them all down at least once. I'm pissed off at God for them, you could say...

I am reading the Bible. Next time any of you recommend reading the Bible, you ought to be specific to which parts. After reading a good amount of the Bible, I'm even more disgusted with God. The only good stuff in the Bible is all the "Jesus died for your sins because he loves you" kindergarten type stuff. Most of the Bible seems to be full of bizarre violence.

too many people count on a god to take care of them...solve their problems...make their life better...for some this is the only way they can think...my husband does this...and it is annoying to me...i have had discussions on the existance of god with him and yet when he needs something he would rather turn to a non existant entity than me...and god never makes it better for him...just keeps him doing something like praying that takes up even more time...wasted time...wasted hope...i really don't understand it at all...god doesn't piss me off but the stupidity of people who have the intelligence to know better doing this does irritate me to no end...your grandmother's situation...would irritate me but she was raised that way and has been doing it for 87 years so that wouldn't have me so angry as i know there is not a god and that is why she is not helped...but her belief keeps her busy even when she is in pain...

I get pissed off at Him sometimes too, and I tell Him so because He knows everything about me and understands. His ways are not our ways, neither is His time our time. He knows what is best for us;He is our Father and we are His children and we tend to act like children do! Did your parents tell you the reasons for everything they did? Probably not, and when you got older you realized what you thought was meanness on their part was actually loving discipline! God doesn't need excuses! He knows what it will take for you and your family to learn the lessons you need to learn; your great grandmothers son shouldn't have left her alone for even 5 minutes since she is so weak and it took her falling out of her chair and lieing there for 20 min. for him to realize this! He should have gotten someone to sit with her instead and I'll bet he will from now on! I can put my trust in Him and depend on Him because I know he will not give me anything I cannot handle. I have faith that he knows what is best for me and my family and since I have given him my burdens my life has been better than it was without Him! I hope I have helped you, I'll be praying that God touches your heart in this matter!

I'm sorry but the world has bigger problems then your great grandmother falling out of a chair for 20 minutes. Give me a break. 90% of the population believes in God. The other 10% ignorantly believe that if a God exists, everyone who believes in God is going to have perfect health, a perfect life, and will never fall out of a chair when they are 87 years old.

NO , I am NOT pissed off @ God & I never will be .
Yes, bad things have happened in my life , even some things I just can't understand like why my cousins huband who was only 40 years old died of cancer & now my cousin has to raise her 2 children w/ out her husband. I know that we , becuase we are human & God is greater , don't always understand why God lets things happen, but he knows what is best for us & he DOES take
care of us. Not that what happened to your Great-Grandmom was a good thing & I'm SORRY to hear that it happened , but MAYBE it's a way to show you that she needs a medical alert system
so if she does get hurt & no one is there to help she can push the button & have them come to help, BESIDES she could also get hurt if she wakes up & tries to do something while her son is
sleeping ? ! Don't be mad @ God, be glad that he helped her NOT get hurt .

yes, i can put my trust in God. there are things that happen and we don't know the whys. i understand you concern over your granny - i had the same with mine. after the first time she fell, we didn't take it as a negative thing but rather something for which we needed to make arrangements. we then got her the "help i've fallen and can't get up button". it really did work and gave her a sense of confort. after a while, she fell probably once a week. the local fire department had a key to her home and would often get there before us. once, my granny just laid there for about 4-5 hours! when my dad arrived to make her breakfast before his job he was shocked and worried, she replied, i didn't want to wake anyone again and knew you'd be here sooner or later. besides, i haven't been able to lie flat for almost 10 years so i thought i'd make the best of it.
God didn't put the traffic in the way of her son. GOd didn't make your gran fall. God was beside your gran while she was lying there making sure she was okay.

1. Atheist don't believe in God so you cannot be mad at something you don't believe in.... OR do you believe in God?

2. It is not our place to question what God does because we as humans do not see the whole picture of things.

As much as you hate to hear that as my answer its the truth and God usually allows things to happen to bring people )not only the person involved) closer to him, maybe he is trying to bring you closer to him. God is a loving and a caring God, but Adam and Eve sinned and caused the world to be cursed. If everything was perfect and just peachy then who would turn to God? People wouldn't... I'm sorry what your grandma is going through, but things will work out.. things always get worse before they get better. Humans always wonder why this why that and question everything thats why its hard to just letthings go in God's hands.

God Bless

Your basic religious issue is that you were brought up in a world that "god is all-knowing; God also gives freewill": The problem with that is if someone has "absolute knowledge" of the future, then "freewill" is not possible. For if god knows what you are going to do with your friggin' freewill, then it ain't free at all. AND, since he knows what you are going to do with that freewill, he ain't got nothin' to b*itch about because all he had to do was choose to NOT CREATE you--the source of his b*itch. You can rest that all is planned out and everyone goes to heaven after this sh8t is over.
As for the rest of your issues....life is hard, and you need to see a counselor to get over the unfortunate knocks you have endured.
The respectable thing is, since you are still alive, you must be courageous! Else, you would have ''packed it in'' by now. Good job!

You're not an atheist. An atheist doesn't believe that God exists. Neither does he/she believe that prayer works. How can you be angry with, or expect anything from, something that doesn't exist? You sound more like a disgruntled theist than anything else.

Anyway, your religious friends and family will be the first ones to tell you that their god works in mysterious ways and isn't in the wish-granting or performing-on-demand business, which makes me wonder exactly what this imaginary friend is good for in the first place.

Belated reply- Count me in on this one. It is possible to be angry at God. For me personally, God sent me a woman that I absolutely hate and God is not perfect, like I thought he was. I am being forced into marriage and my entire family thinks that "God couldn't have me a more beautiful, spiritually-oriented woman." The truth is, she is an evil *****, a bully! She is also bi-polar (I have autism/PTSD). We have very little in common and she wears a disguise to mask her true self. That is, she acts nice and hides whatever she is doing, just so she doesn't end up in trouble. That's why I don't like God. You can believe in him, like me, but that doesn't mean that you have to like him. God makes bad/evil creations too. See my points?
