Do the "do re mi fa so la ti do" scale, but as you do each set, go an octave lower or higher, (depending on how low or high you want to go)than the previous. This always works for me. Good Luck!!

I'm in a church choir and we definitely Pray before we sing. Some people like myself drink warm not hot water with lemon to sooth the throat muscles. Sometimes warm herbal tea with substitue sugar. Not equal or sweet-n-low but a substitue sugar. Look for it in a whole food store or the organic isle in Jewel or Dominick's.
Singing drills and long deep breathes, also lying down on the floor makes you use your diaphram, which is where you should sing from. Singing from your throat strains your vocal cords and muffles the natural sounds and tones your voice should make naturally. You can use honey as a sweetner if you must, but try the teas without anything added, they work the best. One last thing that does help but even I have a hard time doing this one, that is to stop talking so much and save your vocal cords. You may be a pro at this if your not talker!! good luck I hope I helped in some way.

Shahid!
I am surprised to hear you ask this!

This is the first thing your teacher should help you do!

What you should do is to find at least one piece of music that sets you right in the groove.....something that you *always* sing well from the very beginning, no matter how cold and
un-warmed up you might be ... and keep those as your warm up exercises....in fact, if you do not find this groove from the very beginning of each practise session, you will be lost .....do not do yourself damage...warm up carefully....and then do some regular exercises.....

I have a favorite word series you might sing as a warm up: it is:

evil . air . end . am . ask . among //
arm . up . orb . open . book . noon

directions: sing the first line in one breath, slowly, easily .....take an easy unhurried breath at the double slash (//) then sing the second line in one breath.....transpose it 1/2 step up or down ... and do it again ....repeat as you wish, but only as far up or down as you can without pinching or
losing quality ....always your sound should be easy, warm and full ... no shouting, no buzzing, no ears hurting!

it is nice... it covers a whole passel
of English vowels ...

Pray then make sure you are not in a cold place. Cold air constricts your vocal cords and will make you hoarse. Then do the scales or any type of rhythm that you can take up a key each time you say it. Don't talk much, don't eat alot of food. One thing you don't need is a stomach full of food and your diaphram can't expand like it's supposed to. If your throat gets a little dry, try drinking some bottled water that is room temperture and suck on a peppermint or cough drop. Then, just relax.

Scales is the best possible way to warm up before singing but I know singers who just play their easy songs first then work their way up to the harder songs. If you're a performer though and you need to be stage ready, scales is the way to go.

I was told to do vowel sounds and in particular 'ee' sounds because you hold your mouth differently on an 'ee' sound.

Hope this helps.

Sit down & take a deep breathe, so that you fill your lungs with sufficient breathe. Then start with "Sa", you keep uttering "Sa" till you run out of all the inhaled oxygen. Repeat it, till you find that the note which you are uttering does not have any vibrations.
Doing this make you get more lung power. Always start with the lower octave and sing as low as possible... it'll enable you to achieve base voice.

Do your Scales, to clear your throat. Do it preferbly along with a musical instrument(piano, guitar, etc..).
Excellent drink to warm up:
Take a little Ginger Juice, Add a little warm water, a drop or two of lemon juice and some sugar. Drink this for a warm effect in your throat.
Trust me , it works!!
If you cannot get your hands on the ingredients for the above, Try Ginger-Lemon Halls.

if you have a piano that would help you by starting at c (middle c preferably) and going either up or down the keyboard to different octaves. make sure that your loose around your neck and jaw muscles, there's nothing worse in singing then a clenched jaw or tight muscles. Go through a few breathing exercises, to make sure that your breathings right. I hope I've helped you out and good luck!!!!!!!

Take deep breath and excert (expiration) slowly and flowingly with a very low humming for 2-3 times. This would clean the nerves in neck and spine. Keep the spinal straight while doing so.
