I had a dream where a mentally ill friend of mine pulled out a gun and shot me in the heart. He asked if I was going to be alright, and I politely told him "No man, you've killed me." Then I died. Never actually died in a dream before, it was creepy.

nah he's a great guy. Him shooting me wasn't the weird part, in the dream it was more or less an accident. He had pulled the gun on someone else and I tried to stop him, he shot me by mistake. the wierd part is I actually DIED in the dream, I didn't wake up just before I died, I stayed in the dream and felt my heart stop then everything faded to black.

being shot in the heart = words that hurt
mentally ill friend = someone needs to be cared
That mentally ill friend of yours in dream could symbolize there are someone you are trying to show concern but somehow you got rejected and disrespected or completed ignored. Whether this friend of yours is real in reality, your dream shows that he may serve as a symbol of "needy". In translation, you are showing your caring to people, and someone no one is recognizing your effort. Maybe on the contrary, you got criticized on things you did.
Basically, you vent out your feeling in dream. Being dead in dream Even you didn't actually die shows a failure, disappoint in your life.

There are many books out there on the psychology of dreams (not dream interpretation). Each person has to discover what his/her symbolism is.
Its kind of hard to comprehend, but if you look at every character in your dream, as representations of your own personality, it can be easier to piece together.
Your friend that shot you, when you think of him as a person, what comes to mind. Is he fun? Or is he the mischievious type?
What part of your character do you not like and would like to see killed off? It could be your subconscious trying to hint that there is something that you aren't satisfied with in yourself.
The mind is also capable of relieving stress through dreams, or simply running through the events of the day.
Usually though, if you feel that there was supposed to be some meaning behind it, then there usually is.

One thing you should not do is take another person interpretation. You have to think about it by yourself. some people believe that in dreams you sum up the things of what you did that day, and the memory is just going everywhere. But i personally think that dreams can stem from anything. i know for a fact if you are having a lot of sex, then you stop, within a couple of days, you will dream of having sex. i wouldnt think to much of it.

Could be a past life memory, if you went so far as to actually go through the entire death process..... People who recall past lives also recall the actual passing, if could be this person you know in this life also shared another one with you....
